August was dedicated to celebrate current members, welcoming new participants into the fold, and building innovative new club structures to expand community impact.
This week, we had the opportunity to hear from a new friend of Daybreak, Gerard Felipe, about his story and how he has arrived in Warrnambool to join his parents and start new life in our coastal city.
Gerard Felipe presented to members his Rotary experience to date, from a Geelong club to his search for a Warrnambool based club due to his relocation. Gerard has attended Daybreak breakfast meetings and been to a social night. He has secured employment in Warrnambool with Beyond Bank and starts next week.
Gerard grew up in the northern Philippines in Baguio, high up in the cordilleran mountains region. He will be dressed in traditional Philippines indigenous costume at the upcoming Warrnambool Multicultural Festival November 7th on the Civic Green.
An excellent presentation and great to hear about different culture.

Janey competed in The Australian National Championships last week. The event was held at the Warrnambool Target Sports Complex at Lake Gillear over 5 days.
65 competitors were there representing 5 states in Australia.
Janey came third (Bronze medal) in the 90m Benchrest event on the Thursday.

Join Daybreakers for this getaway fun time. Robyn is organising this weekend so jump on board for a couple of nights in the country air, and to book your accommodation, or you will be sleeping with Barry in the paddock with some sheep I believe.
Highlight is the Harrow by Night Sound and Light Show.
This living-history theatrical production transports audiences back to the 1850's.
Local volunteers dress as historical figures - including bushrangers, mounted troopers, and townsfolk - bringing local history and humour to life.

Guest Speaker
Dianne Riordan was our guest speaker this week. she spoke to us about being in the Warrnambool Kiwanis Club and the parallels between Kiwanis International and Rotary International. Kiwanis was established in 1915 in Detroit in Michigan USA. Initially focused on business networking, the organisation changed it focus to service in 1919, specifically service to children. Kiwanis Warrnambool and Warrnambool Daybreak Rotary both have been helping with the Santa Sacks program for many years. Our Past President Barry Brooker offered and used his garage for many years to store and distribute Toys and the Santa Sacks until we were offered the shipping containing from Owen Homes in Braithwaite street as a storage option.

Our very own Past President Peter Cassady gave us a snippet of his life story on Wednesday morning, Peter had us all in laughter with his antics on the school bus growing up. He took us on a journey from his school days through to his apprenticeship as a motor mechanic then onto the Victorian Ambulance Service where he thought he would only stay for a short while, 36 years on retired. It was wonderful hearing and sharing those memoriesPeter, thanks.
We have so much talent and many varied skills amongst our members, its always great to hear their stories.
