President's Chat
Steve's Chat 39
Hello Daybreakers,

The program for this week’s meeting was thrown out the door with the late withdrawal of our guest speaker due to illness and the members story deferred due to family commitments.  Thanks to Glenn, for messaging Janey & Cheryl, to ask for content during breakfast.  We started the meeting by discussing the fun we had while raising funds at the long lunch.  Jenny gave us an indication of the likely profit from the day and once all the accounts are received (Hopefully next week) the final result can be broadcast.  The long lunch committee are to be congratulated for the wonderful day enjoyed by all in attendance.

Our  “guest speaker” was Chery Bellman, we were given a brief history of her life & professional development and, as the meeting wore on, Cherylreturned to tell a tale or two mixed with some humour.  Thanks, Chez.

During breakfast we watched a slideshow of the photographs taken during the Long Lunch.  Thanks to Ian Watson for taking the time during the event and putting the slideshow together.  Thankfully, after breakfast one of the videos suggested by Janey Preston was able to be displayed.

On Sunday Glenn has organised our participation in the Clean-up Australia Day event, a number of members are rostered to attend alongside the boys from the Clontarf Academy.  Thanks to Glenn and those able to attend this important community service event.

Glenn’s Report

We had a great roll up for Clean Up Australia Day today.
There were 19 volunteers including: Barry Brooker & Charlie, Kelly Giblin (Kalay Academy), Luke McInerney & 8 boys from Clontarf Academy, Paul Newport (ring in who joined us), Chris & Janey, Serge, Andrew Suggett, Ian Harper and myself.

We picked up a total of about 20 bags of rubbish from both Victoria Park and Levys Point Car Park in about an hour and a half.  Some of us then adjourned to Chris and Janey's for some egg and bacon sangers, beer and a cuppa.

See pics attached, including a selfie of the stupid camera man.
Thanks to everyone who helped out.  A good example of "Many hands make light work!"

The group 5 clubs are forming an advisory committee for future “Rotary Days” promotional and membership drive events.  We are being asked to participate by nominating a club representative to attend planning meetings.  The role crosses many areas of a club from Public Relations, Membership right through to fundraising, so who would be interested in this role ?

Group 5 clubs are also trying to get together for a fellowship day in Portland on Sunday May 5th, once numbers are known we can organise a bus to safely transport us.  Who would like to coordinate this with the six other clubs ?

At next week’s meeting our Guest Speakers will be Geoff Soma and Robert Coffey from WRAD. We can look forward to getting an update on the lookout program and the general running of the organisation.  Jan Read will be presenting a where in the world session.  A strong attendance from members would be appreciated.

Our meeting on Wednesday March 13th has been changed to a vocational visit to the community gardens at 6 PM, Followed by dinner at the Warrnambool Bowls Club in Cramer Street.

On March 7th there are two events taking place.  Firstly, our membership chairs Peter Smid & Cheryl Bellman have organised an information evening for prospective new members.  Please call Peter or Cheryl if you can assist or can bring along a friend or neighbour who may be interested.

Warrnambool Centrals peace concert committee are also requesting we support their annual event.  For those that are not involved in the membership evening please support the peace concert, it’s sure to be an enjoyable evening and all funds raised go towards sponsoring an Australian Rotary Health Peace Scholarship.

District Events: Conference (Repeat)

Many of you are going to the District conference.  The event is drawing near, and I encourage members to register.  Accommodation has become available due to completion of construction work throughout the district.

Our District Governor, Anthony (repeat), would like Rotarians to take up an interclub challenge to win a special prize at conference.

We are asked to take photograph’s and tally up the number of hours that we participate in some form of physical activity and divide the total hours by the total members in the club. We are looking for the club with the highest physical activity hours/member.

Naturally as Rotarians, there won’t be any cheating and physical activity can be any activity that moves you, e.g. walking, dancing, tai chi, running, cycling, swimming, gardening etc.   District even have one Rotarian who is attempting to cycle around District 9780 to Conference.

DAYBREAKERS, our club’s activity hours tally starts from 9.00am Thursday, March 14 until 6pm Friday, March 22 for the start of District 9780 Conference 2019 at Maryborough Vic.

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

We had to have the garage door repaired.
The repairman told us that one of our problems was that we did not have a 'large' enough motor on the opener.
I thought for a minute, and said that we had the largest one made at that time, a 1/2 horsepower.
He shook his head and said, 'You need a 1/4 horsepower.'
I responded that 1/2 was larger than 1/4 and he said, 'NOOO, it's not. Four is larger than two.'
We haven't used that repairman since...

I live in a semi rural area.
We recently had a new neighbor call the local city council office to request the removal of the DEER CROSSING sign on our road.
The reason: 'Too many deers are being hit by cars out here! I don't think this is a good place for them to be crossing anymore.'

My daughter went to a Mexican fast food and ordered a taco.
She asked the person behind the counter for 'minimal lettuce.'
He said he was sorry, but they only had iceberg lettuce.

--------------------------------------------

I was at the airport, checking in at the gate when an airport employee asked, 'Has anyone put anything in your baggage without your knowledge?'
To which I replied, 'If it was without my knowledge, how would I know?'
He smiled knowingly and nodded, 'That's why we ask.'

When my wife and I arrived at a car dealership to pick up our car after a service, we were told the keys had been locked in it.
We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver’s side door.
As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked.
‘Hey,' I announced to the technician, 'its open!'
His reply, 'I know. I already did that side.'

A teenager brings her new boyfriend home to meet her parents. They are appalled by his haircut, his tattoos, his piercings.

Later, the girl's mom says, "Dear, he doesn't seem to be a very nice boy."

"Oh, please, Mom!" says the daughter. "If he wasn't nice, would he be doing 500 hours of community service?"

--------------------------------------------

A blind man went into the department store and suddenly began swinging his dog around and around above his head.

The superintendent rushed over and, ducking each time The dog passed overhead, asked: “Sir, can I help you?”

“No, I’m just looking around”

The irate customer called the newspaper office, loudly demanding to know where her Sunday edition was.

“Ma’am”, said the Receptionist, “Today is Saturday.  The Sunday paper is not delivered until Sunday”.

There was a long pause at the other end of the phone, followed by a ray of recognition.  “I’ll bet that’s why no one was in church today too.”

A Census official was assisting a farmer’s wife to fill in her forms.  “How many children have you got?”, he asked.

“Six” she replied. “Three sets of twins.”

“How very extraordinary,” said the census man. “Twins every time.”

“Oh no,” she said with a blush.  Not every time. Hundreds of times, nothing.”

A nursery school pupil told his teacher he'd found a cat, but it was dead.
'How do you know that the cat was dead?' she asked her pupil.
'Because I pissed in its ear and it didn't move,' answered the child innocently.
'You did WHAT?' the teacher exclaimed in surprise.
'You know,' explained the boy, 'I leaned over and went 'Pssst' and it didn't move'

--------------------------------------------

It was that time, during the Sunday morning service, for the children's sermon.
All the children were invited to come forward.
One little girl was wearing a particularly pretty dress and, as she sat down, the minister leaned over and said, 'That is a very pretty dress. Is it your Easter Dress?'
The little girl replied, directly into the minister's clip-on microphone, 'Yes, and my Mum says it's a bitch to iron.'

--------------------------------------------
A certain little girl, when asked her name, would reply, I'm Mr. Sugarbrown's daughter.'
Her mother told her this was wrong, she must say, 'I'm Jane Sugarbrown..'
The Vicar spoke to her in Sunday School, and said, 'Aren't you Mr. Sugarbrown's daughter?'
She replied, 'I thought I was, but mother says I'm not.'

--------------------------------------------
A little girl asked her mother, 'Can I go outside and play with the boys?'
Her mother replied, 'No, you can't play with the boys, they're too rough.'
The little girl thought about it for a few moments and asked, If I can find a smooth one, can I play with him?'
