Prattle #11 (Nov 19, 2023)

Hello Daybreakers,

December: Rotary Disease Prevention and Treatment Month.

Last President Prattle for 2023, 6 months of my Presidential year has nearly finished, we as a club have certainly covered a lot of ground, literally, as a venue change was thrown into the mix not long after we had the changeover.

The RSL have welcomed us and are always obliging. I would like to thank Manager Andrea (ANDY) Lawson for this smooth transition, I only hear positive comments from members with our new location.

Condolences to Ian Harpers wife Marita and family members on the passing of Marita’s mum on Friday night 15^th December, The loss of a loved one is always hard and at this time of the year, when we usually think it is a happy time, some others have to face a loss. Daybreakers send our love and support to Marita, Ian and their family.

Daybreak is still on the lookout for a club secretary in 2024-25, Mehul Patel’s Presidential year. This must be done as it will only put extra burden on Daybreaks board. Rotary International need a name for this position now actually, This position is not onerous, it is only as hard as you want to make it. It will open up opportunities for an individual and is a great way to learn more.

I am speaking from experience and completed 4 years as secretary of Daybreak from 2010 to 2014.

Please consider and approach Mehul Patel to be a part of his team going forward.

We now head into our BBQ season over the January period, this is always busy but rewarding. The club needs the funds to meet our obligations and be able to support local causes, Ian Harper is the contact for BBQ information, so phone Ian if you need to change a shift or would like to help out more.

I would like to take the opportunity and say stay safe over the Christmas holiday New year period. Merry Christmas everyone, enjoy time with your family and friends.

REMINDER

The Board has agreed to cancel 2 club meetings at the RSL over the Christmas Break.

These dates we will NOT be at the RSL is Wednesday 27^th December 2023.

Wednesday 3^rd January 2024.

PDG Andrew Suggett. 40 years Service Certificate

We had a surprise visit from our past Daybreak member and current District Governor, Ian McKay.

Ian was passing through Warrnambool on his rounds of club visits and decided to drop in and present PDG Andrew Suggett with a Rotary International 40 year service certificate. The Certificate is signed by current Rotary International President Gordon McInally.

Andrew has actually now clocked up 41 years and still very active as a Rotarian, Andrew started his Rotary journey with the RC Warrnambool on November 1^st 1980 through to 1997 then he became a charter member of Warrnambool Daybreak July 29^th 1998. Well done Andrew, you are certainly an inspirational person and great mentor for all of the Daybreak members.

Fairy Street Traders BBQ

Friday 8^th December saw some Daybreakers set up the BBQ for our first event for the Summer BBQ season.

We had a great night with approx. $880.00 raised.

Liz Bligh and Sue Cassidy helped with the early set up of the marquee and tables. It was a constant crowd and this kept (the upfront girls), Janey busy taking the money and Sandra in full flight, filling the bread bin and sauce bottle.

Serg hot footed it up to Coles for more sausages, while Barry Moran had to run around to Aldi for more Sauce.

Great effort and lots of laughter was had by the Daybreak team and we made the Standard PBge 2.

Thanks Di for the drawing class this last week at our club meeting, We do have some talented sketch artists amongst our members, was good to look around the tables at the different styles.

Glenn Rundell had to the opportunity that was offered for a quick Helicopter flight to Bendigo for lunch on Friday 8^th December. I think Glenn got a bit more than he bargained for and felt a bit green on the flight

Warrnambool Club Christmas get together.

Daybreakers were invited to join members from RC Warrnambool for a social night Christmas drinks at the Warrnambool Club on Friday 15^th December, It was a great night with lots chatter and banter. Sandra, Janey and myself joined the other 22 attendees. More to come in 2024.

Santa Sacks:

Daybreak members donated 36 Santa Sacks that will be distributed to children who are in foster care. Thanks Cheryl for organising this again, we had done this now for quite a few years.

We are always looking for guest speakers at our meetings , so please pass on any contact details to our Program Coordinator PP Sandra.

BBQ Trailer clean out and tidy up.

Serg, Chris & Glenn met at Sergios house and had a trailer pre BBQ season clean out. Completed emptied the trailer and restacked everthing in a neat order. Glenn has taken photos and will laminate these, they will be blue tacked onto the inside trailer wall and will be a help when repacking after each BBQ. Good idea Glenn.

Raffle:

Club member Sue Cassidy handed out the RC Ballarat South Community Raffle tickets to members

Good tip is to sell you tickets early before the community is flooded with the same raffle.

Our club gets to keep $1.60 from each ticket sold. Great 1^st prize being a $38,000.00 car. And 2^nd prize is a $1000.00 Bunning voucher.

If only 20 members sold 20 tickets that would make us $640.00. Seems to easy really.
