Welcome:
-ANDREW PAUL (Guest Speaker) - Cheryl
 - Look forward to hearing about your adventures in India
            - ANDREW GIBLIN  - Ann
                       - Hope you enjoy the morning with us

The first order of business is my new dictatorial decree:  All visitors for each morning meeting must now have the same Christian name – how easy would that be?

At the beginning just let me say that for me, this morning is all about all care and no responsibility. Anything nice is mine, anything nasty Steve told me to say it.

24/4 Normal Wednesday meeting
  • 25/4 ANZAC DAY > NO Preston bbq available after the service. WHAT TO DO?
28/4 District Assembly
  • Who is going? LIZA should be supported by as many members as possible, especially NEW upcoming Board members and the Foundation Chair. Please get behind LIZA with this.
5/5 GROUP 5 DAY in Portland
  • Please put this in your diary as it is important to support the other Clubs in the Group 5 District. I am sure they will be putting  a lot of effort into creating a great day for us all, and they deserve our backing.
Annual Reports
  • Advanced notice from Steve. Reports are due in June, so start thinking about them. Be kind to Gerard and get them in ASAP.
Breakfast
Enjoy whatever Cheryl thinks we are having for breakfast this morning and we will be back after breakfast for what I am sure, will be a very interesting talk by one of the Andrews.

Hands On India is a not for profit secular charity organization seeking to help children achieve their optimum potential through education, health care and empowering the community.
The project is located in West Bengal, north-east India, and is one of the highest density areas in the country.

It was started in 1971-72 during the Bangladesh War, primarily to service the refugees who had flooded the area from just across the border.

A team goes every year between January-February for 2 weeks. They all meet in Delhi
and fly up together. There are up to 30 chiropractors, mostly young graduates, but others have much more experienced. Each member of the team has to raise $1,000 as part of their commitment.

The Target Groups are the poor families eking out a living as rock breakers / crushers mostly breaking rocks up for road fill, and the tea pickers, mostly Bangladeshi women and children. The Team handles a host of medical issues, including early strokes, broken bones, and worming the children. Fundraising enables them to service 7 village schools, with the team providing 5 sessions per village over the 2 weeks. They have a catchment of about 4,000 people. The Program raises about $40,000 to enable these 7 schools to provide quality education for 700+ children.

Women’s Empowerment Groups include 2,300 women. $16,000 allows education, health and hygiene, bookkeeping, organic farming, cattle rearing and small businesses. They are also providing a platform for confronting domestic abuse.

Well done Dr Andrew Paul.

Barry B. announced that next week is Kid’s Week (school hols), with people encouraged to bring children and or grandchildren for the meeting. It’s the old “pie in the face” time again, this time hopefully with the kids on the receiving end.

Ali reminded members that there is usually a group that meets down at Lake Pertobe on Good Friday morning for Hot X Buns. While she will not be able to attend, she is happy to organize the event if people are interested. On next week’s agenda.

Thank you Ms A.

Well that’s all for this week folks.

As Steve would say, get off your bum and be the inspiration.

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

A man went into the pet shop, "I am playing Long John Silver in the local amateur dramatic societies version of Treasure Island and need a parrot to sit on my shoulder," he said.

"I don't have any parrots at the moment, but you wouldn't want a real parrot for that. It would squawk in all the wrong places, poop on your shoulder and generally be a nuisance. What you need is a stuffed parrot. Just as realistic and easily controlled."

"I'm not sure a stuffed parrot would be okay," said the customer. "I do want this performance to be as realistic as possible."

"I am sure a stuffed parrot would be fine," said the pet shop owner. "I have one at home. I'll bring it in and if you come back on Thursday you can have it."

"Sorry," said the customer, "I can't make it on Thursday. That's the day I'm having my leg cut off.”

So there's this Wizard who worked in a factory. Everything was satisfactory except that certain miscreants, taking advantage of his good nature, would steal his parking spot.

This continued until he put up the following sign: "This parking space belongs to the Wizard...Violators will be toad."

Two little kids are in a hospital, lying on beds next to each other, waiting outside the Operating Room.
The first kid leans over and asks, 'What are you in here for?'

The second kid says, 'I'm in here to get my tonsils out and I'm a little nervous.'

The first kid says, 'You've got nothing to worry about. I had that done when I was four. They put you to sleep, and when you wake up they give you lots of jello and ice cream. It's a breeze.'

The second kid then asks, 'What are you in here for?
The first kid says, 'A circumcision.'

The second kid says, 'Whoa, good luck with that one, buddy! I had that done when I was BORN...Couldn't walk for a year.

Co-workers sympathized as my mother complained that her back was really sore from moving furniture. "Why don't you wait till your husband gets home?" someone asked. "I could," my mother told the group," but the couch is easier to move if he's not on it."

---------------------------------------

While proudly showing off his new apartment to friends, a college student led the way into the den. "What is the big brass gong and hammer for?" one of his friends asked.

"That is the talking clock," the man replied.

"How's it work?"

"Watch," the man said and proceeded to give the gong an ear shattering pound with the hammer.

Suddenly, someone screamed from the other side of the wall, "Knock it off, you idiot! It's two o'clock in the morning!"
