…. April Theme: Maternal & Child Health Care ….

Hello Daybreakers,

It is with great sadness that I write this edition of the Prattle. As we now have heard that one of our members, Andrew Suggett, has been called to higher service, Andrew was a truly inspirational person. I have only personally known Andrew since the lead up, formation and charter of The Rotary Club of Warrnambool Daybreak 26 years ago. Andrew came to Daybreak from the Rotary Club of Warrnambool, he brought along a sense of humour, a lovable personality, a kind heart, and that gift of making all who knew him, feel important.

Andrew never stood back from anything, never seemed to tire out, he just moved forward and got on with whatever there was to do. When we were undercoating the showgrounds shed wall, I turned around and here comes Andrew, I said “what are you doing here, does Betty know you are out,” Andrew replied, “shut up, give me a brush”.

Andrew was Daybreaks 3^rd President, 2000 – 2001, he was very community minded and was always working on some project, being Rotary, Warrnambools Parkinson’s Support Group, Parkinson Victoria committee member (now Fight Parkinson’s). Rotary House committee which he has chaired since inception in approx. 2004 when the journey started.

History house committee for many years, and of course his love of art and being creative. There are so many other community things Andrew was involved in, he just did it.

Daybreak recognised Andrew with a 42 year service to Rotary International certificate in December, signed by the current RI President Gordon McInally and presented to Andrew by District Governor Ian McKay.

I have passed on Daybreaks condolences to Betty and indicated Daybreak are there for the family if we are able to help in any way.

A truly inspirational man. Thanks Andrew, for being you.

Showgrounds Poultry Shed Street Wall up grade.

Thanks to all who have helped with the preparation and undercoat application on the Showgrounds shed wall on Koroit Street. We now wait until the participating schools have their art work panels completed, a couple of days prior those being screwed in place along the wall, we will put the final dark grey top coat on.

Liz Bligh, Cheryl and myself met Kiera 2 weeks ago, at Are-able. She is employed to help run the front desk, Kiera is looking forward with hesitation, but is eagerly waiting for this opportunity that RYLA will provide.

Liz Bligh, Janey, Cheryl and myself will go this coming Thursday night for the wind up dinner they have at the Kangaroobie camp.

……. DID YOU KNOW….. ?

There was a fire at a Bunnings BBQ located near the Adelaide Airport.

A couple helping at the BBQ were taken by ambulance to hospital with minor burns. Daybreak has had a fire ourselves, approx 6 years ago on ANZAC day at an RSL dawn service. We found that a gas cylinder hose had not been tightened up, hence gas leaking around the outlet that ignited, fortunately no one was hurt and the marquee didn’t burn. We learnt a valuable lesson and now diligently tighten the hose fitting and test with a soapy frothy water solution.

2 bottles would be fantastic. We need the wine to be a good quality and over the value of $20 each.

GUEST SPEAKER; District Enviromental Chairperson: Barbara Sheehan.

Barb will be speaking to us on April 17^th. This will be interesting so please try to be there, some members are away on holidays so those in town please come to Rotary that day.
