BULLETIN Number 50
Hello members of Daybreak and welcome to Bulletin 50 which will be my final edition as President of your Club.  It has been an honour to have served in this position and I thank the members of the Club for placing their trust in me over the past year.

I’d like to open by passing on the Club’s condolences to Daybreak member Gerard Lourey on the passing of his father Maurice.  Maurice’s funeral will be held on Tuesday June 23rd and due to Covid-19 restrictions will be invitation only.  Gerard our thoughts are with you and your family at this time.

Well what a roller coaster of a ride 2020 has taken us on!  As I sat down to write the Bulletin I received a newsflash that the forecasted ease of restrictions will no longer occur on the previously scheduled dates.  What this means is that we will have a restriction of twenty people attending our changeover breakfast.  I can confirm that our changeover breakfast will take place at the Lady Bay as per the invitations that were earlier circulated. Cheryl and I have conferred and made some adjustments to the RSVP list so that we are able to limit the numbers and proceed with the event.  We are looking forward to the event and finally meeting with others from our Daybreak membership.  If you have indicated your attendance please make payment online (see original invitation) or bring correct cash ($25) on the day.

At this stage we are planning to resume our weekly Wednesday breakfast meetings at The Lady Bay commencing on July 1.  The Lady Bay has offered to accommodate us in the Conference room for the coming month or so where social distancing can be readily achieved. The buffet will not be available and instead we will have two breakfast dishes served on alternate weeks till restrictions are eased.  Juice and water will be on the tables and we will be served coffee or tea on arrival.  The cost will be $18.  We will have further discussions with the Lady Bay in the coming days and will inform members of any changes in process that may necessitate.

Service Programs – Victoria has taken a regressive step in terms of the easing of restrictions due to COVID-19.  We had envisaged that the Club may be able to step back into some of our service programs such as Meals on Wheels and the Care Program, towards the end of July. However we will have to wait and see what guidelines are issued closer to that time and all members will be informed when we can resume safely.

Daybreak Resignation – The Board regretfully accepted the resignation of Daybreak member Jenny Turner.  Jenny has been a member of Daybreak since November 5, 2009 and has been a valuable member of our Club organizing our participation in the Community Soup Kitchen and also leading the Long Lunch project for several years.  We will miss Jenny’s involvement and friendship and thank her for her contribution to our Club.  Jenny hopes her resignation will enable her to spend more time with her family who are spread throughout Australia and New Zealand.  We wish Jenny all the best and hope to catch up with her from time to time.

Annual Report – I’d like to thank Ian Watson for stepping in to collate the Annual Report in Gerard’s absence.  The report will be circulated electronically in the coming days to all members of the Club. There will be a few hard copies for members to view if attending the changeover breakfast.

2020 Rotary Virtual Convention – A reminder that the Rotary International Virtual Convention is currently taking place from June 20-26.  Sessions start each day AEST at 11pm, 3am and 9am.  To register visit http://www.riconvention.org/en

June Birthdays and Anniversaries – Congratulations go to Andrew Nield who celebrated a birthday on June 19 and also to Barry Brooker who will celebrate his birthday on June 25.  It will be an expensive week for Glenn Rundell as he will need to purchase a present for Ree who also celebrates her birthday on June 25.  Congratulations also go to Ian Watson who will have a Rotary anniversary, having joined Daybreak on June 25 2003; June 25 is a popular date so it seems.  Jan Read likewise celebrates a Rotary anniversary on June 29 having joined in 2011.

Foundation Update – Sir Clem Renouf, past Rotary International President and the inspiration behind Rotary’s polio eradication has passed away. The funeral of Sir Clem Renouf will be held on 23 June 2020.  It will be live streamed and you are welcome to watch (email with link will be forwarded).

Written condolences may be addressed to his son Noel:
Noel Renouf, PO Box 373, Kangaroo Ground Vic 3097,
Or you can email the family care of Noel noel.renouf@bigpond.com
Any Donations and memorial contributions may be sent to End Polio Now via their website:https://www.endpolio.org/donate

Secretary Chez has recently sent to all members the latest copy of Strong Foundation, a newsletter produced by District 9780 and based largely on news from and about the Foundation and the numerous projects supported.  Please take the time to read this publication as it has some interesting stories highlighted and informs you of how your contributions contribute to a better world.

A gift to the Annual Fund helps Rotary Clubs take action and create positive change.  Your contributions help fight disease, promote peace, provide clean water and sanitation, save mothers and children, support education, grow local economies and respond to disasters.  To donate please contact our Treasurer Jan Read or visit www.my.rotary.org

Invitation - The Rotary Club of Port Fairy will have their changeover and induction of PE Tony Bawden on Monday June 29.  Due to limits on participants they will zoom the induction from 8pm for those wishing to attend via zoom.  If you would like to attend in this format email crosiers@bigpone.net.au

I would like to wish President Elect Peter Cassady and his incoming Executive my best wishes for an enjoyable and fruitful year.

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE

Now I’m 72 and have your respect, let me comment on life as I know it!

Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators.  We haven't met yet

I don't trip over things, I do random gravity checks!

Old age is coming at a really bad time!

When I was a child I thought Nap Time was a punishment; now, as a grown up, it just feels like a small vacation!

The biggest lie I tell myself is ... "I don't need to write that down, I'll remember it."

Lord grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the friends to post my bail when I finally snap!

I don't have gray hair.  I have "wisdom highlights".  I'm just very wise.

My people skills are just fine.  It's my tolerance to idiots that needs work.

If God wanted me to touch my toes, he would've put them on my knees.

The kids text me "plz" which is shorter than please.  I text back "no" which is shorter than "yes".

I like my middle finger best because it always sticks up for me!

When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

I've lost my mind and I'm pretty sure my kids took it!

Even duct tape can't fix stupid ... but it can muffle the sound!

Lord, Give me patience and give it to me NOW.

Of course I talk to myself, sometimes I need expert advice
