Attendance: Nooka put the raw data through his complex attendance algorithm again this week. ‘Fifteen eating, two paying and eating, one non-eating, so seventeen members present.’
Meal: Fittingly after last weekend’s multicultural festival, this week we had curry and rice.
Sgt Bob introduced our stand in President, your humble correspondent, who barely lasted in the job longer than an Essendon CEO. In reports;
· Haysey reminded members of the vocational visit on the 19th of October to SWI, Pacific Handling and K9000 dog wash. Rsvp in the Stack app.
· Robbo reported on the Multicultural Festival. Bob, Hayesey, Nooka and James joined Robbo in helping the organising committee. 4,000 people attended the event, which appears to have been a great success.
· Nooka gave us an update on the footy tipping contest. To quote Nooka directly, ‘I don’t know where the money is.’ I believe this is what accountants are taught in accounting school to say in cases where the matter may end up in court. We are now in the fascinating situation of seeing whether our winner Robbo, a lawyer by trade, can extract money out of Nooka, a trained accountant. The immovable object meets the irresistible force. Fascinating stuff.
· Hutto thanked those members who attended the inner wheel film night. Robbo observed that the second half of the movie was first rate.
· Lindsay reported that Bomber is on chemotherapy for non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Our thoughts and best wishes are with Bomber.
· Lew spoke to members about our exciting ‘Matt Giving Up the Gaspers’ fundraiser. Matt mentioned that he had not agreed to the plan, however, if we failed to proceed with a project every time we had one member objecting we would never do anything. Lew will hand around a sheet next week and members can pledge an amount to the club should Matt manage to give up the coffin nails between now and our changeover. Support the club and support Matt’s health by getting involved next week.
· Robbo reports that Bruce and Lorraine recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. Bruce continues to receive treatment and is doing well.
· Matt informed us that the Lake Pertobe tree planting day with the other Rotary clubs is tentatively scheduled for the second week of November. The plan is to follow the tree planting with a social barbeque. The granite rock with our plaque is already in production.
· Ron announced that Bill and he plan to write a book about our club. If you have any information that may be of interest to Bill and Ron, please let them know.
· Bob reported that the applications for the myeloma nursing scholarship close today.
Bill conducted an excellent fines session based on his book about the Warrnambool Co-op. Members noted that the former ‘Chief Inseminator’ of the Co-op wrote a book entitled ‘The Rise and Fall of the Co-op’ and told a very similar story to William Shirer’s book ‘The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich’. All proceeds from sales of the book go to Brophy and their work supporting young homeless people. Well done Bill. The barrel was drawn and Peter Ward went home with the sought after bottle of fermented grape juice.
