I hope you all had a lovely long weekend and enjoyed the sunshine. Today is the start of May Race week so naturally it is raining to the delight of the famers but maybe not the racegoers.
This afternoon is start of Race week with the Thoroughbred Club’s Myeloma Luncheon which I am sure will be another huge success. Big thanks to Hutto for all his hard work organising this event.
Also, thanks to Bim Affleck for representing our club presenting a wreath at Anzac Day last Friday. In fact he presented two wreaths as yours truly stuffed up and ordered two wreaths from separate florists.
I desperately ask that all hands be on deck this week with our can/bottle collection working bees. This is a big fundraiser for the club so lets all pitch in and do what we can do to help Brendan/Hutto over the three day carnival.
For those not interested in the races please note that there will be no meeting this week. I look forward to seeing either at the track, collecting cans or at next week’s meeting.

Attendance: Nooka ‘Heisenberg’ Taylor had just finished a cook in his RV out in the desert when he dropped in to give us an attendance report. Nooka recorded an excellent 24 members and one guest, Maria, in attendance.
Meal: Chicken schnitzel with gravy, salad and chips.
Sgt Jon opened the show with a fine crab and lobster joke before introducing President Matt. Matt, who had returned from a weekend at Rocklands announced;
His year of presidency is close to the end. (However Bono is going away as soon after the changeover, Frans Bos style, and so Matt will have to stay in the chair for a bit longer.)
We still need more volunteers for the Thursday of Race Week, towards the end of the day.
An ANZAC day wreath has been organised. Bim will lay the wreath.
Our AGM will be held on the 28th of May, auditor willing.
Please rsvp to the Changeover dinner invitation as soon as possible.
Our next board meeting will be at Madala’s early June. It will be a combined meeting of the new and old boards. That is to say, we invited Jon.
Members are asked to talk to any sporting or community groups they are associated with to see if they want to fundraise through our Golden Community Raffle. Tickets are available at Northeast Stockdale and Leggo.
Special envoy to the racing industry John Hutson then gave us a full presentation on upcoming events;
Tomra will very kindly open at 7.00am just for us during race week.
There will be a working bee this Saturday at the racecourse to place the metal plates and zip ties on the bins and place them around the course.
The Myeloma Luncheon is looking great with 213 attendees, good guest speakers, prominent dignitaries, and good prizes all in place.
Hutto wonders what a bloke has to do to get some quince paste.

Tony D announced we will return to Tooram memorial park for a working bee one Sunday morning in June. Sunday June 15th appears likely.
Paul R. gave us a treasurer’s report.
Bono advised us that Gracey will be returning from the US in time for the races.
Bono has also secured $1,000 from Frontera and $3,000 from Bega as donations towards the primary school youth science forum. Matt was so impressed he has committed to start buying Bega cheese when catering for board meetings.
Bono has also secured a donated conveyor belt from the good people at Bega Cheese. We thank Bega for this generous donation.
Robo gave us a report on Maria’s long board surfing exploits. Maria is off on Safari now for a month. We wish her a great trip.
Dillo informed us about Hospice’s revival of the Warrnibald portrait competition. See details below.
Nooka gave us a footy update. Rotten and the Compass are on 36, Dildo and the Builder are on 35, and T Bone, Robbo and O’Reilly are on 34.
Paul conducted an excellent political trivia fines session before Matt and Jon drew the barrel and Paul Forbes bagged the rich prize purse on offer, namely the free lunch voucher. There is no such thing as a free lunch however, as Robbo found out this week when he paid for his meal despite having the voucher.
Matt reminded members we have no Wednesday lunch meeting next week. If you are feeling like a bit of Rotary come and say hi to us at our can sorting area at the racetrack.

Boré’s View.
Boré is a terrific Rotarian, and he loves everything about Rotary. He particularly likes those Wednesday Rotary lunches when the rest of us are otherwise occupied doing something else. Boré is able to enjoy a lovely meal without crass yobbos talking about horses and footy, and fining him, and repeatedly telling him they can’t understand what he is saying because of his Dutch accent.
I would like to tell you that you are welcome to join Boré for lunch at the bowlo this Wednesday but, valued reader, you are not invited because you would almost certainly bring down the tone of the meal. You are instead invited to an elegant, sophisticated occasion with friends sifting through beer-soaked garbage at the racecourse.
Boré has been dreaming about this week’s Rotary meeting and has drawn the scene for us.

Rotary Horse Racing Report.
This May Race Carnival, in between we are collecting cans, members will be able to sneak around to the track and see Matrooshi and Chipilly go around. Matrooshi has been entered into the eighth race on Thursday and Chipilly nominated for races on the last two days.
It is worth noting at this point that every previous time we have had a horse running in the May Carnival, it has done appallingly badly. Surely this is the year we finally break our May Carnival curse. Obviously probably not with Chipilly, but surely Matrooshi won't let us down?

Ten years ago, Pinky Kemp sent us this snap of ancient wisdom and modern chemistry on a t-shirt. Who would have guessed ten years later how prophetic Pinky's t-shirt was. As we prepare once again for a big three days of can collecting at the racecourse, alcohol has proved to be an excellent partial solution to our fundraising needs. Don't let anyone ever tell you that alcohol is not a solution.
