What a fantastic day we had visiting Cooramook Dairy last Wednesday followed by a lovely lunch at the Woolsthorpe Pub. The weather was magnificent as we toured through the Rotary Dairy and then the calving shed having many questions answered by the dairy manager Ben. Huge thanks to Gerald Irvine organising the day an to Bim for giving us a brief history lesson about the farm.
Happy birthday to Greg Allison this coming Tuesday.
Look forward to seeing you all back at our normal venue this Wednesday.

Rotten Returns.
What an interesting excursion we had last week to the Cooramook Dairy and Woolsthorpe Pub. Hats off to Gerald for organizing the day and to Bim for the history lesson. It wasn't all that hard to find the dairy if you followed the enclosed directions.
I carpooled with three members I didn't know that well, Jon, Sam and Paul. Happy to report they are all nice guys. I offered to pay my share of the petrol, but apparently Jon's vehicle is electric. Just as well because I only had a fifty dollar note on me.
Sitting with Gracie for lunch at the pub we managed to solve most of the world's problems in under an hour. Makes you wonder what the pollies are doing! Malcolm was also sitting with us after returning from his overseas trip, which included, among other places, Canada. What's the fascination with Canada among members lately (Tony D in Quebec recently)? I blame Glenn with his Canadian connection.
Back in my travelling days (I don't travel anymore due to the unhealthy state of my back and my wallet) I also visited Canada. We hired a car in Washington DC driving through Philadelphia, New York and Boston to Montreal, on the wrong side of the road and without GPS. These days I would struggle to find Koroit without the help of GPS. We visited Niagra Falls which is a famous honeymoon destination. From memory that information didn't help my cause - but I digress. My impression of Canada was it's a bit like America without guns.

Boré’s View.
Several years ago, your correspondent owned a much loved malamute. My neighbor owned a much loved guinea pig. Then, one day, the two pets met and then I owned a happy Malamute and he no longer owned a guinea pig. My neighbor came to see me to express his views about my dog eating his guinea pig. He pointed out that he was emotionally distressed by the event, as were his distraught children. I asked him if there was anything at all I could do to in any way lessen his family’s pain and grief. My neighbor mentioned that $50 might help (guinea pigs were selling in pet stores for about $8 each at the time). A fifty-dollar note was forthcoming and the subject of his family’s distress never came up in conversation ever again.
The point I am trying to make is that a guinea pig can be a high priced and highly sought after meal. They really are a prized delicacy. Nobody understands this better than David Jellie, other than my malamute of course. David is in Peru at the moment and is really going to town on the guinea pigs. I believe they taste like a cross between a koala and a domestic cat. Bon appetite!

out the ancient stone work on both sides of the road. No mortar is used.

Rotary Horse Racing Report
Last week I wrote about Chipilli and Overflow Miss being the Toyota Corolla’s of the horse racing world and Sirileo Miss being a Ferrari. We have another horse in our stables. Matrooshi is the Telsa Cyber Taxi or Toyota hydrogen car of horse racing. Much like these mythical cars, which have been ‘3-5 years away’ for 15 years, Matrooshi has been about to make her racing debut for a very long time.
Today Matrooshi lined up for her first race in the Cassign Maiden Plate here in Warrnambool. I don’t want to say that Matrooshi is old to be making her debut, but she mainly trained for the event by playing carpet bowls in the Shady Acres equine lifestyle village. Matrooshi, as you may recall, is the half sister of Sirileo Miss. Unfortunately, it appears that we didn’t get the good half. Never the less, it was with exhausted excitement born of years of waiting that we witnessed Matrooshi finally making her debut.
Matrooshi, expertly piloted by Thomas Stockdale, got out of the gates nightly, sat in good position around the bend and then got a clear run down the straight. She was no match for the short priced favourite Fickle, but cam home in a very creditable third place. Full credit to Thomas for his ride and full credit to our friends at Wilde Racing who have persevered over a long period to finally get Matrooshi to the races in good order. Hopefully she learns from the run and a maiden victory isn’t far away.
