Attendance: Nooka made a triumphant return this week and decried the imposters who had been standing in for him while he was away before declaring a ‘rather poor’ attendance of twenty members. We had no guests or visiting Rotarians.
The nurse said 'just fill out the form and deposit your sample into the cup'.
Meal: Schnitzel this week. After all these years, your humble correspondent only became aware this week that Robbo askes the staff what is being served for lunch so he can pair the wine he orders to the meal. Going forward, I will endeavour to engage Robbo as our Central Spoke sommelier to make wine pairing recommendations for each meal that we receive. In the meantime, we recommend the schnitzel, chips and gravy is perfectly matched to a goon bag of fruity lexia.
Pip got us going with a good job interview joke. Apparently it was word for word what happened in the James Hird Essendon coaching interview.
Paul stepped up to the mike and announced;
- It was great to see so many members return from holidays.
- We need to vote on the Rotary redistricting. Nobody was sure what we were voting for or against, or indeed how we ended up voting, but the vote was unanimous.
- The Warrnambool Rotary Club as asking for volunteers for the RYDA road safety program. See below for details.

- Surf advised us the Coastcare/Landcare tree planting day at the Wellington Street bridge will be on Sunday 6th of September (Father’s day). Kick off will be 10.00am and will probably finish about lunch time, but you can leave earlier if necessary. All equipment will be supplied. Surf advised members to wear sturdy boots and a hat. Other clothing optional.
- Gerald informed us we have two students looking to attend the Defying the Drift program this year in Longerenong. The cost will be $5860 and the Rotary clubs are being asked to make a contribution. Lew highly recommends Defying the Drift.
- Sam reminded members that their memberships are due and also to please let him know if they are making a contribution to the Bruce Ludeman Community Fund or the Rotary Foundation (Centurion program).
- Sam also spoke about a proposed fundraiser by manning a barbecue for Hire Australia. Details to follow.
- Gracey informed us Lifeline South West are holding a charity golf day on November the 27th. They are looking for team sponsors and golfers to participate.
- Nooka advised that he has ‘no idea what is going on’ with the footy tipping before declaring that the results will not be revealed until the week before the Grand Final. Robbo than revealed it was an exciting and controversial finish to the tipping which resulted in a three way tie. The discussion descended into disarray and Bruce was left to wonder what the hell kind of club he had just joined. Nooka congratulated Essendon supporters for winning the number one draft pick.
Matt conducted a hastily organised but excellent fines session based on the life and times of Dolly Parton. Added flavour was added by Matt giving StKilda merch to any member who got a question wrong. Many member were quite rude in the way they rejected the StKilda merch, but I think that was a mistake. Once StKilda merges with Tasmania, Brisbane-Fitzroy style, to return us to an 18-team competition, StKilda merch will become very collectable. Thanks Matt.
