Minutes
Attendance: Nooka noted 22 members in attendance including The Pope. This number also included Hutto who, according to Nooka, ate someone’s meal and didn’t pay for it. Nooka advised that we had two guests. Our two guests were Michelle Forbes, Lexi Forbes, and Ian Urquart. We also had a visiting Rotarian, Chris Stebbing from the Rotary Club of Warrnambool.
Meal: Corned beef.
Sarg Dillo kicked off proceedings and introduced our President-elect Matt. Matt reminded board members of the board meeting next Tuesday, 7.00pm 30a Riverview Terrace. This will be a meeting of both this year’s and next year’s boards.
Lexi Forbes spoke to us about her desire to go on a Rotary Youth Exchange. Lexi’s family has hosted exchange students in the past and she has two older sisters who have been on Rotary Youth Exchange. Her preference is to go to France, but Lexi is happy to go anywhere. Lexi presented very well and we wish her every success with the next stage of her application.
In reports;
· Robbo noted that Bruce was struggling a bit and currently has both Covid and a separate respiratory viral infection. Our thoughts are with Bruce and Lorraine.
· Tim advised us that Mary will be returning to Australia with her mother early July. All going well, we hope to see them at our July 3rd meeting. Mary is currently studying medicine.
· Hutto informed interested members that we will have a container recycling debrief at Hutto’s, 9 Marfell Road, next Tuesday 28th at 12.30. BYO.
· Matt read out a lovely card from Hospice. See below.
· Greg discussed the assistance we need to provide Lexi Forbes during the exchange application process. We need a volunteer to assist Lexi at the Cave Hill Creek camp in Beaufort on the 15th and/or 16th of June. We also need a volunteer to assist with the interview process at Ballarat Grammer on the 29th or 30th of June. Please let Greg know if you are able to help.
· Matt advised that the Mavis Trigg Foundation has kindly transferred $6,000 into our account in response to our container recycling project. We thank the trustees for their generosity.
Chris Stebbing from the Rotary Club of Warrnambool then spoke to us about the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) project. RYDA is a road safety education project for year 11 students delivered in six sessions over a single day. The program will be run on June 24th, 25th and 26th in Warrnambool. It will be attended by students from all the high schools in Warrnambool as well as Mortlake College and Camperdown College. Volunteers are needed for each of the three days to serve as ushers and timekeepers. The program runs from 9.00 until 2.30 and volunteers may be required a little bit before and after these times. More information will follow, but please consider assisting Chris with this wonderful project.
