Birthdays.

22nd May -Shane 'Nickel' Keogh.

ClubRunner Mobile

Minutes.

Attendance: Nooka recorded 26 members in attendance with no guests and no visiting Rotarians.

Meal: 21 members enjoyed chicken breast parmigiana with salad and chips while 5 members gave the meal a hard pass.

Penno opened the meeting with an excellent joke that also displayed Penno’s talent for accents.  He then introduced your correspondent, who was standing in for our President.  I said something, but I forgot to take minutes of my own speech so it is lost to history.  In reports;

·       Hutto reports that he is recovering well from a recent health scare.  He also reports that Marg is doing well.  Hutto had three bits of good advice for us;

1.     If you experience any chest pain, seek help immediately.

2.     Keep three aspirin handy and take them if you suspect a heart attack.

3.     Maintain private health insurance.

Members filled out a short survey about their ideas for the Rotary year ahead before Rob held a fines session based on our memory of paper money.  You know, that stuff we used to use to buy things before the pandemic.  The stuff that research shows hold more viruses and bacteria than toilet seats.  Few of us remembered what it looked like, so Rob raised quite a bit of money for the club.

Members returned their questionnaires before wandering out into a crisp late-Autumn day.

Save the Date.

Our Changeover dinner will be held on Friday 2nd July in the Carmichael Room at the City Memorial Bowls Club.  Pop it in your diaries now.

Boré’s view.

Your long serving Central Spoke editor has always appreciated the wonderful cartoons drawn for us by Boré.  I have only ever declined to publish a cartoon once, and that was based on solid legal advice.  Even then, we subsequently published the cartoon once the statute of limitations had run out.

However, I have heard a rumour that the incoming President is going to take a very hard line, North Korea style, on any cartoons that insult the dignity of the ‘Dear Leader’.

We in no way thank Boré for his cartoon this week.

Pip’s playground.

Central Spoke OH&S expert Pip Ritchie sends us his design for a new school playground.

Practical dilemmas.

Pip asked me to publish three things this week, here is the second one.

Ten years ago.

Ten years ago, we published a number of stories that may be of interest to members.  We reported that Swedish AFL club Södermalm had poached past exchange student Oskar Lindleoff from Panmure.  We predicted that it was likely to be a spiteful encounter next time Panmure played Södermalm.  In other news, some members went fishing.

“Bruce Ludeman reports fish in the Southern Ocean are again living in fear as they listen to the sound of trousers hitting boat decks.  Garry Askew joined Bruce and Lindsay Monaghan at sea pursuing the ‘sixth avenue of service’.  Bruce reports the boys pulled in six and half tuna.  The fraction was courtesy of a mako shark, which evidently the lads failed to catch despite baiting their hook with an entire tuna.  The shark not only took half a tuna, he also took one of Bruce’s $1,000 rods.  Now the mako is able to catch his own tuna.”

Rotary Horse Racing Update.

Very little is happening on the Rotary horse racing front.  Sirileo Miss is having a spell and probably won't race again until Spring.  Power of Song is coming along well also will not be seen until the Spring.  Our new horse 'Garry's Delight' is only young and is quite a way away from her first run.

The only excitement is Vassa Blue's entry in the Warwick Screen Printing and Embroidery Handicap this Thursday.  For those members not travelling to Warwick to watch the race, rest assured we will bring you a full report in next week's Central Spoke.

Thank you to all those who contributed this week.
