Boré’s view.

Here at the Central Spoke we are big fans of the Silverado.  Bruce has installed the number plate ‘BL0000’ on his Silverado.  That is because ‘BL0000DY HELL THIS IS A BIG TRUCK’ won’t fit on the number plate. 

Boré drives a Ford Territory.  Forty years ago, a Ford Territory would have been the biggest car on the road.  These days it is dwarfed by all the Toorak tractors people drive their kids to school in, let alone the Silverado.  Boré felt nervous when Bruce parked next to him at the Christmas party.  Fair enough too: if there had been any sort of damage to the Territory, no insurance company in the country would have believed that it wasn’t Boré’s fault.

Minutes.

Attendance: Penno counted 28 members and 3 guests present.  Our guests were Scott Doyle, Karen Wilde and Bill Wilde.  Technically we also had visiting Rotarian Adrian Campbell of the Rotary Club of Camberwell present on the other end of a Zoom call.

Meal: Jason has been just teasing us for the past two weeks.  Finally, this week he unleashed the mince. Jason delivered a lasagne that could only be described as mince done to perfection.

Penno continued is drill sergeant approach to being sergeant and got the meeting efficiently underway.

Our President announced that the Emma House fundraiser has been postponed for the time being.  We are not sure if that is related to their façade collapsing through their roof.  Hopefully Emma House is back up and running again soon.

Malcolm delivered the only other report, reminding members our Auction will be on the 17^th April and that donated items are being sought.  Talk to Malcolm if you can help.

Dillo introduced the first of our Guest Speakers, Adrian Campbell.  Adrian spoke about the Rotary Outreach Myeloma Project (ROMP).  18,000 people in Australia have been diagnosed with myeloma.  The Great Southern Coast ROMP support group is looking for 1-2 supporting clubs to assist and facilitate the group.  No money is required.

Karen Wilde then spoke about her experience with Myeloma and her enthusiasm for the ROMP program and a local Myeloma support group.  Dillo then presented Karen with a tub of Malcolm’s quince paste.  Some members speculated about the potential therapeutic qualities of Malcolm’s paste* (See below).

James noted that some people see a glass half empty and some see a glass half full, while others see a glass they would like to empty.  James sent us these snaps.

*Your correspondent suspects that a prospective double blind controlled clinical trial would show that Malcolm’s Miracle Medicinal Quince Paste^TM would perform as well as the placebo control (with a statistical p value <.05) for the treatment of every disease known to mankind.  Based on these results, Malcolm’s paste would be as effective as 80% of the front-of-counter products in a modern pharmacy. 

I have a plan Malcolm.  We will purchase promotion for it in newspaper lifestyle magazines and on daytime television, pay for celebrity endorsements, and pay off prominent social media influencers.   Trust me Malcolm, we will make a fortune.

Rotary Horse Racing update.

Vassa Blue.  Naturally, you will always get your naysayers, but here at the Central Spoke we never doubted the great horse for a minute.  With the Saddle Samurai Nozi Tomizawa back on board the big fella, a good result in the prestigious Toowoomba Truck Spares handicap was almost guaranteed.  I might add, getting beaten by Vassa Blue by more than twenty lengths just defies comprehension.  We have provided you with a list of six horses that you should never bet on.
