Minutes.
Attendance: Sam recorded 31 members and no guests. 111/2 members apologised. A highlight was the presence of Stu Bethune and Peter Ward. Great to see you guys.
Meal: It is difficult to say exactly what it was, but it certainly was another original mince creation from the master. I am going to describe it as a mince burrito parmigiana with salad and ‘chip chips’ – potato fries cut in the shape of potato crisps. Brilliant.
Due to the fact that some members attended without letting Macca know they were coming, the venue had catered for smaller numbers than actually attended. Unfortunately Boré, Macca and The Pres missed out on mince. Remember people – if you don’t r.s.v.p each week it can have serious consequences for others!
Penno kicked off proceedings with an uncharacteristic joke. Penno’s joke touched on issues of race and religion. If you are only going to tell a joke every so often, you might as well jump in with both feet. Macca timed the joke at 4min 57 seconds, making the joke nearly 21/2 longer than our club’s AGM. Top work Penno.
The Pres. congratulated Rob on have his Australia Day Honour conferred at Government House. People speculated the year gap between the award being announced and then conferred was due to the time it took for the protest to be dismissed by stewards. Well done Rob, richly deserved.
In reports:
· Bob has been forced to change the date for the ‘Guns and Beers’ social event. Apparently, it clashed with a food and wine society event and so Bob was worried about numbers (presumably worried about numbers at the F&WS event). More details to follow.
· Malcolm announced we have about $30,000 worth of goods for the Auction. Well done everybody! Lew is looking to recruit table captains for the event. Let Lew know if you are able to help.
The club then held a formal debate on the proposition that we should change the date of Australia Day. Your correspondent was joined by James and Bob for the affirmative while Penno, Robbo and Greg argued for the negative. Greg concluded and summarised his team’s case with an ‘Up yours Tony!’ This line of reasoning proved both popular and persuasive, and the general consensus seemed to be that Penno’s team won the debate. Even though Rob adjudicated the event and seemed to announce a winner, after he finished speaking no one was quite sure who had won or even if anyone had. The event did seem to be enjoyed by members. Congratulations to Penno, Robbo and Greg. Thanks to Bob and James for being involved, and thanks to Les for organising it.
