Unfortunately, Malcolm was called away to a lunch in Melbourne last Wednesday, so I have written these minutes to bring him up to speed.
Attendance: Nooka clicked twenty-two members and one guest, Maria, through the turnstiles. It was great to see Francis, Paul O’B, Trevor and Tim again.
Meal: Schnitzel and gravy. A bit of mustard and ketchup wouldn’t have gone astray.
The meeting started at the bottom of the fifth, game four. The Dodgers were up 2-1 in the series but the Blue Jays up 2-1 in the game after a Guerrero homer off Ohtani in the third got himself and Lukes home.
Gracey hopped on the mound and threw the first pitch to get the meeting under way. Paul Reilly once again stepped up to the plate to pinch hit as president.
Gracey went out to bat right on time...
...but it wasn't a long innings.
Shohei Ohtani is the first man in sixty years to both bat and pitch in Major League Baseball. The previous day Ohtani had hit two home runs and got on base more often than anyone else in World Series history. He came into today’s game as the Dodgers starting pitcher. Just crazy good.
Paul R. is the Shohei Ohtani of Warrnambool Central. He can bat, he can pitch, he can stand in as president, he can be the treasurer, he can be guest speaker, he can do the fines. The man can do it all.
Paul got us to first by stepping in as president and advising us of the Warrnambool Rotary Club’s open gardens this weekend. In other reports;
- Matt announced the WRAD Residential Rehab fundraiser charity auction on Thursday the 13th of November. Tickets are $100 for a 2-course meal and drinks. If you wish to assist WRAD talk to Matt about joining his table.
- Matt also reminded members of the $5 Melbourne Cup sweep.
- Sam reminded members that they can purchase one of his daughters’ calendars for a very reasonable $25. Essendon fans should note the calendars do not contain pictures of Sam Draper or Zach Merrett.
Top of the seventh. Varsho hits a single. Clement gets a double, Varsho to third.
Giménez singled to the left, Clement to third, Varsho scored. Jays 3-1 up.
Paul R. hit an excellent double getting us through second and on to third by combining being guest speaker with an account of his European trip together with a fines session. Paul spoke about his travels to France just as Ty France hit down the middle and was thrown out at first, allowing Giménez to get to second and Clement to get home. Jays 4-1 up.
Paul showed us a great picture of a Roman aqueduct that was in use from its construction in the first century until it was decommissioned in the twentieth century. These days our water mains need to be replaced every fifty to a hundred years. That was one of the defining characteristics of the Roman Empire; back in those days they had good engineers.
Bichette singled to the left, Guerrero Jr to third, Giménez scored. Jays 5-1.
The barrel was drawn and Trevor hit a home run in his first game back.
Barger singled to the left, Bichette to second, Guerrero scored. Jays 6-1.
Paul got us to home base and closed the meeting in the bottom of the ninth in Los Angeles. In the last play of the game, Teoscar Hernández scored for the Dodgers, but it was too little too late. A win for Warrnambool Central and a 6-2 win for the Jays to square the series 2-2.
