Club returns for 2025.

Last week members returned for the first meeting with barbecue and a game of pétanque, bocce volo, or possibly even boule lyonnaise.  Your correspondent was not in attendance and I am not sure what rules, if any, were being applied.  Paul Reilly has kindly sent us these snaps.

Lew noted that, unusually, Pip was in the lairy shirt while Trev
looked like he had just come from a Johnny Cash concert.

Pip's hamburger patty also looked like it had come from a Johnny Cash concert.

David thought the onions were a bit undercooked.

Rotary Horse Racing report.

Backing up seven days after her so-so run at Warrnambool on New Years Eve, Overflow Miss got a start in the fifth at Hamilton last Tuesday.

OM got away well but quickly settled back into the middle of the field.  She stayed in this position before making her move as they entered the final straight.  Once again, she attempted to outsprint the field down the straight, and once again her lack of ability took a toll on this ambition.  She came home mid-field and never looked likely.

There is something deeply comforting about watching a mediocre horse putting in an indifferent performance in a second rate race amongst a run-of-the-mill field of horses.  It is not too exciting and not too disappointing.  Moderation and calmness are the secrets to a long and happy life.  Long live Overflow Miss.

More mediocre updates as they come to hand.

Ten Years Ago

Ten years ago, it was a January tradition for Robbo to borrow our PA system on behalf of the tennis club for their big annual tournament.  Robbo would then forget to bring back the PA system and we would be without a microphone until some time in February.  The key for Robbo was to pretend the microphone wasn’t missing and hope nobody noticed.
