No doubt members are aware our Charter President has been unwell and is currently receiving treatment.  We are advised Bruce is getting good care and the prognosis is very good.  Our thoughts are with Bruce and we wish him well for a speedy recovery.

Minutes.

Attendance:  Nooka counted27 members, no visiting Rotarians and no guests.  Nooka noted only a handful of members who operate cash businesses paid for their meals with cash.  Only Lindsay M., Hayessey and Reevesey were A.W.O.L.  Well done to everyone for rsvping. 

Meal: Chicken pieces in sauce with thawed vegies and cheesy bread.

Penno got the show on the road for another year by introducing our President Gerard.  Ronnie thanked all those who volunteered for the hole in one.  Well done guys.

In reports:

·       Sam asked all members who do volunteer work to report these hours to Brendan.

·       Macca informed us that there will be a board meeting next Mon at Brendan’s in Tarhook Road.

·       Greg noted that Jann is back in Oz and sharing hotel quarantine with his father.  Hopefully we will see him at a meeting soon.

·       Malcolm has scheduled the Auction for April 17^th in the Matilda Room.  The Auction Committee will be meeting again soon.

Bob conducted a fines session based on knowledge classic songs.  He was relying on the ignorance of club members to raise money.  Against all expectations, this strategy did not work.  Fines from the floor helped correct the problem.

The Pres. closed the meeting and we were done and dusted for another day.

Some people thought Robbo looked like Roy Orbison.  We are going with a more modern cultural reference. 

Robbo was rocking the ‘C.mon man, cut the malarky’ vibe.

 

Boré’s view.

Traditionally, every year in our Rotary club we have a peaceful transition of power from one president to the next at our change-over dinner.  However, this year feels different. 

There is all sorts of chat on social media.  An anonymous Rotarian named ‘R-anon’ has been posting on a little-known site in the dark recesses of the web that few Rotarians are familiar with called ClubRunner.  R-anon, who claims to be a high ranking official in Rotary, keeps dropping mysterious posts that purport to have broken the code of Rotary acronyms.    Your correspondent doubts the veracity of these claims and doubts anybody really knows what any of the Rotary acronyms stand for, but R-anon has attracted many followers.

Will we see a peaceful transition of power this year, or will the sitting President have to resort to violence in order to force the President-Elect to take on the Presidency?  Only time will tell.

Good news she looks great and hasn’t over indulged over Christmas unlike myself.

Our President.

Our President has been a key member and important leader in our club for many years.  That is what makes it so surprising that we don’t know what his name is.  Bruce has gone with Brendan, Pip with Ronnie, and Lew has suggested it might be Gary Baker.  Boré is incensed that members have not take the trouble to learn his name and admonishes everyone to call him by his correct name, which he is 80% sure is Gerald.  Most ridiculously of all, his employer has issued him with an identity card under the name ‘Gerard Barker’.  Crazy stuff.
