Attendance: Nooka went full Tobias Funke again this week as he recorded an incredible 29 members, one visiting Rotarian and two guests in attendance. Brook from the Rotary Club of Warrnambool, Garry and Maria joined us.
Meal: Schnitzel with gravy, salad and chips, which was exciting for Robbo because it means there are only seven more sleeps until we get pasta carbonara bake again.
Sgt Jon told a joke Dennington joke before introducing President Matt. Matt asked Brendon if he was going to the District Conference and Bono advised that he was ‘working his way towards going’. Most members or our club have been working towards going to a District Conference for twenty years.
Members were glued to Matt’s presidential address, except for Pip who was checking out the incredible range of properties available at Luke Williams Real Estate.

- Greg introduced Brook who is organising the Science and Engineering Challenge. Brook is looking for assistance in approaching local businesses to seek sponsorship for the event. Please talk to Greg or Brook if you are able to help.
- Brendan announced that the June 20th Changeover dinner will be at the Lady Bay.
- Dillo has our vocational visit to Deakin University’s hydrogen center booked for the 26th of March. We will meet at Deakin at 11.30 and then retire to the Hopkins River Café for lunch at 12.30.
- Hayesey relayed the message from Matt Porter that 1,200 high school students from 21 schools had attended the recent careers expo.
- Hutto has 182 people booked in to the upcoming Thoroughbred Lunch in a room with a capacity of only 220. He is still looking for goods and services to auction on the day.
- Nooka advised that he is ‘totally confused’ about the AFL season. Not as confused as Gracey however, who was happily watching the Essendon v Suns season opener without realising the game had been cancelled and the broadcaster was showing a replay. With two games played so far, Boré has snuck out to an early lead on six.
- Nooka has offered to sell his free meal voucher for ‘half price’, presumably half the normal price of a meal at the bowlo. Nooka accepts cash and all major credit cards.
Maria then gave us an excellent presentation on Brasil. Maria, I promise to stop spelling it Brazil. Maria, whose nickname we learnt is Tuca, lives in Timóteo in Minas Gerais. Timóteo is home to 80,000 people and a major steel producer. Maria advised us that Brasil was the only country that uses ethanol as a fuel. Of course, Maria has never been to a May Racing Carnival, where people use ethanol as a fuel for three days straight. Maria lives with her parents and sister and has her own zip line at home! We thank Maria for her fantastic presentation.
Rowan then delivered a fines session based on a sheet of questions that Matt handed him right before he got up. This list of questions was the same questions that Matt had asked last time he was on fines. Fortunately, nobody remembered and Rowan collected quite a few fines the second time around. Rowan was still going when your correspondent left so who knows what time the meeting concluded. We had a board meeting at 7.00pm so presumably the board members excused themselves from Rowan’s fines session before then.
