Attendance:  Sam counted 21 members in attendance with 0 guests and 0 visiting Rotarians. 

Meal:  Chicken schnitzel with gravy, chips, and salad.  A very good meal.  Bob will have a word to management so it doesn’t happen next week.

Dillo kicked off proceedings with some professional advice about Viagra and getting it over the counter.  In the first week of operation of Dillo’s excellent new roster, the member on invocation failed to turn up and the member on the toast was also a no show.  Dillo informed members that he had rung Nooka and was able to report that Nooka was going well. 

President Rob gave us an update on the recent board meeting;

·       Rob is pursuing the idea of corporate membership.

·       We are looking in to how we might assist or revive the Wunta festival.

·       Rob is asking for volunteers to run a project addressing domestic violence.  This has been a very successful project for some other clubs in our district.

 

In reports;

·       Tony D asked members to send a photo and a short description of any club activity they are involved in, no matter how small.  These will be used to promote the club on our website and through the Central Spoke.  Send contributions to bulletin.warrnamboolcentral@gmail.com

·       We are considering a project to fundraise from the soon to be introduced bottle and can recycling scheme.  Please consider workplaces and sporting clubs etc that might consider having a Rotary recycling wheely bin so used bottles and cans can be ‘donated’ to the club.

·       Rob noted that District 9780 will apply to become a charity with the recycling company in Western Victoria (Tomra).  If successful, anyone recycling cans and bottles at a Tomra machine will have the option to donate their bottle return rebates to Rotary.

·       Bob is asking for a member to volunteer to take charge of the guest speaker program.  Please talk to Bob if you would like to help.

·       Sam gave us a treasurer’s report.  Memberships will be sent soon.  Annual membership remains at $300 and members will have the option of donating a further $100 to RI through the Centurion scheme. 

·       Robbo and Pip reported on a great night at the RSL.  Congratulations again to Adam and James on a terrific event.

·       Lew asked for volunteers to man booths on Legacy Badge Day.  Please talk to Lew if you can help.

·       Hutto announced that the Jericho Cup Thoroughbred Club Lunch will be raising money for both Standing Tall and the RSL.  Please keep Friday December 1^st free.

·       Hutto also mentioned that our generous club supporter Symon Wilde has purchased 40 hours of our labour.  Hutto, who predicted the experience will be like a ‘Vietnamese sweat shop’ will bring us further details soon.  Some members reflected that the working bee could be the longest 40 hours of Hutto’s life.

·       Robbo reported that he was winning the footy tipping, followed by Dillo.  It seems entirely unclear at this point who, if anyone, is actually running the competition. 

Boré conducted an excellent fines session on the theme of public holidays to commemorate the fact that it was National Rice Pudding Day, apparently, and had been so for the past six thousand years.  There was some dispute about whether we had thirteen of fourteen public holidays in Victoria.  Members commiserated with Father Scott because he has to work at Christmas and Easter.  Get the union to look in to that.

Rob announced he was heading away for three weeks of R and R before calling time on another successful meeting.

Rotten returns.

Apparently, 1 in 5 people in the world are Chinese. There are 5 people in my family, so it must be one of them. It's either my mum or my Dad, or my older brother Colin, or my younger brother Ho-Cha-Chu. But I think it's Colin.

 

After a fairly poor performance last run, Power of Song’s jockey had advised that the horse needed a spell.  The stables listened carefully to the jockey’s professional advice and immediately started nominating her for more races.  After three runs on the Ballarat synthetic track, the stables have suggested trying the horse on grass.  I am happy to try the horse on grass.  As long as it doesn’t show up in the stewards’ post-race blood test, I am happy to try the horse on anything. 

In other racing news, apparently Sirileo Miss is 50:1 in the betting markets for the Cox Plate.  Imagine what her odds would be if she wasn’t disqualified from running!

Meanwhile, the Dirty Angel is edging closer to a return to racing after an uninspiring first up run in February.  Dirty Angel has had more jump outs than Harold Hold has had days at sea, so hopefully she gets back to the track on race day soon.
