Birthdays.

22nd March -Scott Lowrey.

ClubRunner Mobile

Minutes.

Attendance: Sam recorded 28 members and 1 guest.  James’ neighbour Keith was our guest.  Unlike Nooka, Sam continues to make an easy job appear easy.

Meal: Breast of chicken under a white sauce, salad and chips.  The perfect meal for a perfect autumn day.

Penno was away and so was unavailable to introduce Ronnie, which was a good thing because Ronnie was away also.  The Compass and your correspondent stepped into the breach.  In reports:

·       Garry reported great progress on the ramp project.  Thanks to Peter and Paul Kavanagh for their very valuable bobcat and trailer contribution.  Tim has been leading the project with great expertise as always.  We have managed to tap a test hole in the water main to check the water pressure each day so far.

·       Malcolm reports that the auction is fast approaching.  We are putting together the instant cellar again this year.  Members are asked to bring a bottle of wine or other valuable plonk next week if possible.  Lew is still putting together auction tables.  Talk to Lew if you are able to help.

·       Greg informed members Christian and Sladjana Fiedler have kindly given the club a fruit platter and very nice card to thank us for sponsoring Jann in his exchange year.

Paul Reilly conducted an excellent football-based fines session.  The highlight, in my opinion, was Paul asking Robbo ‘which AFL team has the longest standing premiership drought’.  That was below the belt.  Members convened in groups to discuss fundraising ideas before a few fines from the floor wrapped up proceedings.

We are meeting this Wednesday!

We are meeting this Wednesday at the Central Court.  12.30 for 1.00.  It is important that we give the venue exact numbers.

Possible project.

Our President has floated this idea as a possible future project we could be involved in.  He welcomes your feedback.

Ramp project.

Paul Blain kindly sent us these snaps.

You can't tell me we don't at least look like professional tradies.

Auction items.

Malcolm kindly sends us this list of some big ticket items available at this years auction.  Start thinking about what you want to bid on.

Bring a bottle.

Bob McMillan will collecting bottles of wine for the auction from this week.  OH&S expert Pip Ritchie recommends you take care when transporting your wine to the meeting.

Football update.

Lew Officer sends us this entirely unnecessary report.

Mint official, ‘They are great value at just fifteen dollars.’

Customer, ‘And how much is the Rotary dollar worth?’

Mint official, ‘The Rotary dollar coin is one dollar of legal tender anywhere in Australia sir.  Great value at just fifteen dollars.’

Customer, ‘I would like to buy one dollar please.’

Mint official, ‘Certainly sir, that will be fifteen dollars.’

Customer, ‘Do you accept Rotary one-dollar coins?’

Mint official, ‘Of course.’

Customer, ‘Oh, I don’t have any Rotary dollars on me, I left them at home!’

Ten years ago.

Ten years ago, our Charter President and Eric Read returned from Tasmania and we published this report.

This week Bruce Ludeman and Eric Read regaled the club with an account of their recent trip to Tasmania.

Five Rotatians and their partners invaded Tasmania for a week.  Bruce (BMW), Rob (Audi), Reevesey (Porsche) and Eric (Honda) used equipment from the former Axis powers, while Steve flew the Allied flag with his GTS Commodore.  Bruce’s ferry ride was delayed but not otherwise affected by a drug squad search warrant.  (Apparently those blue diamond shaped tablets are prescription medication.)

In the interests of safety, the party reportedly visited no more than five wineries a day and never exceeded 160 kph.  Bruce reported Rob tasted much wine but bought very little.  No doubt our ADG prefers his own superior product.  In contrast Eric bought most of Tasmania’s 2011 vintage and sorely tested both the boot capacity and rear suspension of Steve’s Commodore.

Bruce had an unfortunate accident on a ski lift, but recovered enough to still enjoy his Birthday.  Bruce reported a highlight of the trip was a visit to ‘Moaners’.  He explained that ‘Moaners’ is an ‘erotic art museum’ featuring free entry.   (There is a similar set up in Melbourne called the Crazy Horse, but they charge you to get in.)  Bruce was hard pressed to name his favourite piece of art in the museum; there were at least 150 that he liked.

We thank Bruce and Eric for their very entertaining presentation.  If members feel my account of Bruce and Eric’s talk was a bit too risqué, then I would invite them to try to write a report the next time either Bruce or Eric gives a speech.

Thank you to all those who contributed this week.
