Minutes.

Attendance: Nooka reported that we had 27 people present.  This report was well received by the 28 people present.  One of those was visiting Rotarian Rob Harris.  It was great to see Rob again.

Meal: Two enourmous balls of meat nestled on a bed of pork with fries and gravy.  You just don’t see bush oysters enough in modern restaurants. 

 

Sgt Paul kicked off proceedings in the traditional way before calling for reports from directors and members;

·       Matt gave us an update on the coffees for front line health workers project.

·       Matt also advised us the gardening project at the new cemetery on Hopkins Point Road will probably be on a Sunday later in November.

·       Bob McM was able to report that the Golden Community Raffle is going full steam ahead.

·       Bob also announced that a Tennis day/afternoon meeting, BBQ and social tennis hit will be held soon.  Robbo expected it to be a Thursday or Friday night.

·       Bob reminded us that the Jericho Cup is coming up; 28^th November.  There will be a cap on attendance so Rotarians should secure their ticket to this day at the races soon.

·       Robbo asked members to think about inviting guests as prospective members.  Hopefully we can have a steady stream of club guests throughout the remainder of the year.

·       Boré reported that the PNG water project contribution from our club has now been paid.  We are funding this project in cooperation with the RC of Mount Martha and it is an official RAWCS project. 

·       Boré is putting together a proposal to contribute to a Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) project.  Hopefully we can secure a guest speaker to talk about this wonderful Rotary project in the near future.

·       Hayesey continues to request volunteers for the student work observation project, which is progressing very well.

·       Peter is also in the process of sending out our $75 primary school prizes to all participating schools.

·       Garry announced the winners of our footy tipping competition.  No surprises that Robbo and Sam shared the prize given Melbourne’s excellent year.  Well done Robbo and Sam.

·       Garry gently reminded members that some memberships are still outstanding.  Talk to Garry if you are uncertain about whether you are financial or not.

·       Garry and James brought us up to speed with progress on the Bool Wine and Music Festival.  They are just waiting for final government approval before starting ticket sales.  Tickets will only be available through Trybooking.com.  James showed us some of the graphic artwork developed to promote the festival, which all looked amazing.  We continue to remind members that we will need everyone’s contribution as volunteers in the three days around the event.

·       Peter Lynch spoke to us about the RSL active event on the Friday night before the Jericho Cup.  Harry Moffitt is the guest speaker, there will be live entertainment and a three-course meal for only $900 for a table of ten.  See below for details.

·       Sam advised members that his talented photographer daughter has produced some calendars.  They are available from Sam ‘Mr September’ Baulch for the very reasonable price of $20 each.   

 

Some O’Brien time was followed by a fines session.  Nooka won the barrel draw and took home the very attractive bottle of quality grog.

It was great to see lots of members returning to our Wednesday lunchtime meetings Hopefully we will continue to build as we return to our routine.

Rotary Horse Racing update.

Here at Warrnambool Central Racing we are men.  Real men.  Tough, rugged, macho, manly men.  We seek to win manly prizes.  Recently we picked up the Ladies Day Vase at Sandown.  Lat week we competed for the Inglis Bracelet at Flemington.

After being scratched from the Empire Rose Stakes, Sirileo was entered in the Bracelet on Oaks Day.  On paper the second race appeared much easier, and Sirileo was the early favourite for the race.  With Craig Williams was on board confidence was high amongst connections as we chased our first group 1 win.

Unfortunately, Sirileo Miss really did miss – the start that is.  She uncharacteristically travelled the journey at the back of the field and never really looked in contention.  Craig Williams reported the run was completely out of character for the horse.  Our breakthrough group 1 win remains elusive and the attractive bracelet on offer has gone elsewhere.  It would have looked good on Macca too.

Sirileo has now been put back in the paddock for a spell, meaning we no longer have any horses racing at the moment.  This will come as a disappointment to Rotary Central Racing fans and a blessed relief to all those who is sick of hearing about horse racing.

One man who loves this correspondent’s endless horse racing reports is Boré, who only ever leaves the TAB to come to Rotary meetings.  Boré filed this report between legs of the quaddie.

Ten years ago.

Ten years ago, the club held a post-auction car rally.  A substantial portion of the cars were Bruce’s.  Back in those days our Charter President was driving BMW’s.  He didn't drive them much; only when he could get them working.
