Membership day.

Members are reminded that this week's lunch meeting is an opportunity to invite friends and prospective members to join us.  We hope it will give some people a chance to learn about our club and see if it is something that they might like to be a part of.  Please consider inviting people you know to this meeting.

New Apology Arrangements

Text Andy on 0438 616 462

Please advise all apologies by 4.30 pm on the Tuesday prior to the following day’s meeting.  After this time you will need to contact the Central Court directly on 5562 8555.

Safety first.
Central Spoke safety officer Pip Ritchie has been reviewing car safety.  Pip recommends readers consider purchasing a Nash.

Ten years ago this week.

Our exchange student Channie from Denmark was being hosted by the club.  Before collecting the fines at our weekly meeting, she advised members;

‘I want everyone who is fined to pay up.  I don’t want any of you pretending you don’t have any money – I know what you guys are like!’

Well put Channie.

French fast facts.

The French were rather late in the European race to colonise India, but when they arrived they did arrive with some enthusiasm.  The French East India Company fought the British for control of India.  This conflict persisted on and off from the late 1600's right through to the end of the Napoleonic wars.  At its height, the French East India Company controlled most of the East coast of India and had influence right through central India.

When the French enclave of Puducherry (formally Pondicherry) was returned to India, local residents were given the choice as to whether they gained Indian passports, or retained their French passports (for themselves and their descendants)  As a result, many Indian residents of Puducherry have French passports.

Indian news update.

The day after your correspondent and his travelling companions visited the town of Amravati, the following item appeared in the newspaper.  I swear it wasn't us.
Indian news update II.

Camping.
Many of your correspondent's Indian and Sri Lankan friends are often surprised by our habit of camping as a holiday.  They note; 'Why would we go camping when we have spent our lives working to avoid living in those conditions!'  Fair point.
