Minutes.

Attendance: For the first time in ages, we had no attendance report this week.  We did ascertain that two guests were present; Chris Quinlan and Aylish Goddard Clegg.

Meal: This week Jason wielded the deep fryer like a skilled surgeon wields a scalpel.  Perfect chips and a salad were coupled with deep fried meat from some sort of fish or bird species in an excellent light batter and carefully disguised in sweet and sour sauce.  

Penno launched the meeting but had to abort his joke on the launch pad after realising we had guests present.  Our President conducted the ceremonial discovery of no visiting Rotarians before asking for reports.

·       Hayessey advised us that the Trade Expo is on!  February 16^th 2022 at Emmanuel College.  Members are asked to consider joining Peter in a committee to run the project or assist in recruiting people from relevant vocations to represent at the expo.  Talk to Peter if you are able to help.

·       Garry reports that, when you look at the AFL ap David Jellie is on top, but in fact Glendon Dickinson is on top.  It is a difficult choice for Garry; who do you upset, the lawyer or the man with the gun?  I think Garry has made the right choice.

Our guest speaker was Aylish Goddard Clegg.  Aylish is the Engagement and Communications Coordinator for the Deakin University Hycel project.  Deakin’s Hycel project is doing important work to advance Australia’s National Hydrogen Strategy.  Deakin is looking at the use of hydrogen rather than its production.  The program is looking at transport options, pipelines, education and social license.  Deakin is partnering with local companies such as Warrnambool Bus Lines, which Aylish described as ‘visionary’.  The university will soon take possession of a hydrogen powered Kenworth truck and plan to start manufacturing their own fuel cells in the near future.  One of the many positive things about this project is that is emphasises that Deakin is here to stay in Warrnambool.  We thank Aylish for taking the time to talk to us about this amazing local project. 

Members then poured the sweet and sour sauce of a fines session on to the deep fried meat that was an already excellent.  Penno and the Pres closed the meeting and members continued to discuss their plans for getting the hell out of Victoria.

Aylish spoke about hydrogen.

Pip listened intently.  He feels there were some OH&S issues arising out of the use of hydrogen in the Hindenburg.

Proposed monthly prize for Central Spoke contributions.

In order to encourage contributions to our club’s weekly newsletter, we are proposing to give away a bottle of wine each month for the best Central Spoke contribution.  The prize is designed to encourage contributions from members who do not normally contribute.  Your contributions could include;

·       Jokes and funny pictures.

·       Stories and pictures about rotary projects.

·       Stories and pictures about members holidays or other aspects of their life.

·       Stories and pictures about aspects of Rotary outside our club.

However, if your correspondent can write songs about the cars members drive and publish stories about a horse we actually sold several years ago, almost anything is fair game.  Use your imagination.

As we come towards the end of another Rotary year, I will also take the opportunity to thank those members who continue to be regular contributors.  I wish to thank our President, Pip, and of course Boré for his wonderful cartoons.  Thanks also to Brendan, who assisted with many editions this year.  Thanks also to Vassa Blue and Nozi Tomigawa, they are a gift that keeps on giving.  Thanks also to all those members who kindly contributed items throughout the year.  It is appreciated and without it we would not have a Central Spoke.
