We have travelled to many places since my last report and I cannot begin to describe the hydrants I have seem! There have been several hotels that host the local rotary meetings bur unfortunately I gave not been in a position to do a make up meeting!

Stand in Seargent Lindsay introduced stand in President and President-elect Paul. Paul, having no running sheet handy and not having paid attention during any previous club meeting, had no idea what to do next.
In reports;
Paul asked members with outstanding membership dues to settle those accounts now.
Gerald flagged an upcoming vocational visit to Bega Koroit. This will be a factory visit followed by a meal at Mickey Bourke’s.
Bob discussed a proposed barbecue on Halloween out near Wangoom Road. Stay tuned.
Nooka announced T-Bone came second in the footy tipping but couldn’t recall who came first. T-Bone didn’t receive any prize money because he wasn’t there.
Matt advised that he will run a Melbourne Cup Sweep. Please bring $5 this week.
Paul then gave us an interesting account of his thirteen-week holiday in Europe. Paul attended a family reunion in Glasgow before touring around Scotland in a campervan and then France and Spain in a leased car. He noted it was a Citroen not a citron. Paul and Narelle’s culinary tour was guided by the work of James Martin, Rick Stein and Anthony Bordain rather than influencers on TikTok. We thank Paul for his presentation.

Rotary Horse Racing report.
Matrooshi got back to the track at home here in Warrnambool last Thursday. While it has been great to see Matrooshi race a bit more regularly lately, it is also fair to say that her recent performances have been a touch underwhelming. Leading into the race, expectations for the horse were low. We didn’t expect her to pick up forty possessions or three Brownlow votes, but we just wanted to see something from her; maybe lay a few tackles, put on a shepherd, or effect a smother. Even thought the race stewards tend to take a dim view of that sort of thing, we just wanted the horse to do something.
Matrooshi got away nicely, sat just off the leader for the journey, and actually hit the front as they entered the straight. Obviously, we all thought she would get swallowed up down the straight by much faster horses. Surprisingly, she didn’t. One horse was a bit too good for her down the straight, but the rest of the field were like hapless water buffalos stuck in the mud, just waiting for safari to come along and put them out of their misery.
Matrooshi walked away with second place, a much-needed morale boost, and some much-needed coin to help allay her training fees. Happy days.

Rotary Horse Racing report part 2.
Yes, even more exciting horse racing news this week. Last week Shane brought to my attention that our old plodder, Chipilly, has resurfaced in Kalgoorlie. Chipilly has continued her storied, mediocre racing career with a series of mediocre performances in the tough world of Kalgoorlie gallops. She most recently chalked up a nuggety sixth place out of eight starters in the gold mining outpost. We will keep and eye on Chipilly for you and, naturally, bring you all the exciting updates as they come to hand.
Ten Years Ago.
Some unspecified time ago, Lew appeared in this snap with the famed shark billy cart. Lew was sporting the minimum dress code required to drive the billy cart at the time. Sadly, the shark has fallen into disrepair. When the club takes possession of our can sorting trailer, we may need to make a difficult decision about disposing of the shark to make room for the can trailer.
Ten Years Ago part 2.
Fifteen years ago, members were assisting with car parking at an open day at The Union. As always, it was a safety-first approach. Safety vests and high-vis gold labelled bottles were mandatory to allow motorists to see them. With these precautions in place, only 50% of the members who attended were run over by motorists, as this photo shows.
