Sgt David opened with an excellent duck shooting lawyer joke before introducing our President. Brendan reported;
- The Brighton Rotary project is now just about wound up. Thanks to Gracey and Boré for assisting loading the goods at Caramut. Thanks to Bim and Haysey for helping deliver the goods at Coleraine. There is about half a trailer of goods left over, which will be donated locally. Congratulations to Matt on an excellent Community Service project.
- The sorting trailer will not be completed in time for the Jericho Cup. It should be there to support the Woodford Racing Club at the Woodford Cup.
- A beach clean up is proposed in February.
- The Bega Koroit vocational tour should proceed in the new year.
- Brendan attended the District Regional Meeting on our behalf and reported it was a productive ten minutes.
- Members are asked to r.s.v.p. for the Christmas party.

- Surf has found an excellent venue for our Trivia Night – the annex at the Anglican Church, expertly constructed by Rowan and with, by all accounts, the best chairs in Warrnambool. Should be late February some time. Come for the trivia, stay for the chairs.
- Rowan reports Bill Quinlan is going well and should be back at a meeting shortly.
- Bob reminded members that Brendan has done an amazing job with the Brighton donated goods project and should be congratulated. Members concurred.
Ron then introduced our guest speaker, the President of the Woodford Racing Club, Peter Haynes. Peter’s daughter is a past exchange student sponsored by our club. Peter spoke to us about the Woodford Racing Club and the Woodford Cup. The Woodford Club was established in 1900 and is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. After racing for many years at a track out towards Tower Hill, the club resumed after WWII as a tenant club at the Warrnambool Racecourse. Peter noted that the Woodford Club was a progressive club that was happy to try new things. The club had been supported through a 33-year sponsorship from Cork Walsh, perhaps the longest in the racing industry. Peter noted that the Woodford Club has contributed greatly to the facilities at the Warrnambool Racecourse and has recently formalised its tenancy agreement. The move to hold the Woodford Cup on New Year’s Eve had been a big success with increased crowd numbers.
Peter is a wise man, who noted that ‘It is the club that does the work, not the president.’ People were saying the same thing while Brendan was in Japan.
Peter invited members to celebrate 125 years of the Woodford Racing Club between 11.00 and 1.00 at the racecourse on Woodford Cup Day. Contact Peter if you would like to attend. We will of course be supporting the Woodford Racing Club and they in turn supporting us as we once again collect cans on the day.
