President's Report.

Hi Members,

While we were all focused on, and waiting to Hird who will lead Essendon to greatness towards the end of this millennium* - more news came out from RISPPO regarding the proposed redistricting.

The redistricting within Zone 8 has been approved by the Board, so it will go to the Clubs to vote very shortly. The proposal is to have all new districts activated by July 2028.

The message to all Clubs is “This redistricting proposal is described as a significant opportunity to strengthen Rotary in Zone 8, create deeper leadership, provide stronger support to clubs, and build a governance structure that is fit for the future. The presentation thanks district leaders for helping shape the process and acknowledges the bold leadership required to proceed with the plan.”  Refer attached for FAQ regarding redistricting.

I’m looking forward to the week’s special guests, who will talk about the redevelopment works at the Base Hospital.  The two cranes are difficult to miss on the horizon and apparently they start work very early there - let’s find out what they are up to.

If anyone has an idea for a guest speaker, or suggested topic - speak with Jon V to slot it in.

This week’s bridge it the Samuel Beckett Bridge over the River Liffey in Ireland, aptly shaped as a harp.  It swings horizontally to let boats pass.

See you Wednesday.

*You know the mighty Bombers are having a bad season when a Richmond supporter, whose team is 3-18 for the season with a percentage of 63, is hanging it on Essendon supporters. – Ed.

Attendance: Glenn recorded twenty-two members and one guest.  Our guest was soon to be inducted member Bruce Anson.
Meal: Roast.
Pip got the ball rolling with an Irish joke before introducing our President, Paul ‘O’Reilly’.   Paul advised that our inbound exchange student, Simon Larson, is now in Warrnambool.  His councillor is David Jellie, although DJ was unwell and not present.  Get well soon David.  Members looking to receive all the latest by email from Rotary International can contact Paul.
In other reports;
  • Gerald is asking for volunteers to assist with the Warrnambool Science and Engineering Challenge on Monday the 10th and Tuesday the 11th.
  • Boré advised we will have two guest next week speaking about the Warrnambool Hospital redevelopment.
  • Ron reported that Jenny Myers, our first ever exchange student, will be here in early January.  She won’t be able to attend a Wednesday lunch meeting we will organise a dinner when she is in town.
  • Glenn reported that the Warrnambool Rotary Club have some reversible jackets that he will bring along to a meeting shortly.
  • Glenn also informed us that Ron and Rob are leading the footy tipping on 131, with Lindsay close behind on 130 and Robbo on 129.  With three weeks to go, it is getting exciting.
Glenn conducted an excellent finds session based on random facts about diverse issues such as natural disasters and conspiracy theories.  As is usual from Glenn, it contained some fascinating tit bits of information.
The barrel was drawn and Linsday was awarded both the free lunch and responsibility for the fines session next week.  This will be our new arrangement going forward; if you win the meal in the barrel draw then you are also on fines the following week.  There really is no such thing as a free lunch.

To be fair Lew, Essendon’s 2026 experience has involved a ladder with two rungs; 18th and 17th.  We have been locked in a ding-dong battle with Richmond all year, firstly for the first pick in the mid-season draft, and now for the number one pick in the national and rookie drafts.  A couple more weeks and both teams will be able to enjoy the traditional end of season rest break, the finals.
Ten Years Ago.

Ten years ago, Sam was our club treasurer and he had ways and means of collecting the annual membership dues.  Well, Sam is treasurer again and our annual memberships are once again due.  He can do this the easy way or he can do it the hard way.
