Ronnie’s Wrap.

Rotarians

Sirileo Miss – what a horse! A win on debut at Bendigo last Tuesday at the juicy odds of $7.70.  She ran that well, she sparked up lightning storms and they had to abandon the rest of the meeting, I kid you not. And she’s pulled up a treat according to trainer Simon Wilde. Congratulations to connections in the Central Rotary syndicate and we look forward to her next run which may be race 3 at Ballarat this Saturday.

Now to the bad news. Central Court can only still have 10 people in their dining area so we need to wait until the November 22nd Covid update before we can hopefully meet face to face.

The board held its monthly meeting last night at City Memorial Bowls Club with a good turnout and a pretty full agenda.  The board made a number of decisions relating to Rotary 100 projects including in principle support for the Lake Pertobe redevelopment (in partnership with the other local rotary clubs), support for ROMP (Rotary Outreach Myeloma Program) and a possible replanting project for garden beds along the Merri that were swept away by floodwaters last month (subject to council approval and supply of the plants)

I attended the District AGM on Sunday (via zoom) and am pleased to announce District Governor Phil Beasley and his wife Judy will be attending our meeting on Wednesday 16th December so lock that in your diaries.

Stay safe

Cheers

Ronnie

Notice of Annual General Meeting.

The Rotary Club or Warrnambool Central will conduct its Annual General Meeting, including the election of office bearers, on Wednesday 25th of November 2020.  Given the uncertainty surrounding our changing pandemic restrictions, the nature, exact time, and location of the AGM will be announced closer to the event.

Or, maybe not.  Who knows?

Grampians weekend 2021.

We will be returning to the Grampians next year.  If you want to join us, here is what you do.  Call the Park Gate Big 4 caravan park in Halls Gap and reserve a cabin or caravan site now.  Just do it now.  If you put it off, it will be too late and the park will be all booked out.

Rotary Horse Update.

It is funny how much can change in a year.  At the start of the year no one had even heard of cornona virus.  It is hard to even imagine now.   At the start the year club members had been in syndicates racing two horses called Physicality and Vassa Blue.  Success on the track seemed a wild dream.  All that is a distant memory now.

For more than a year members have been patiently waiting for our giant filly Sirileo Miss to be ready to race.  Wilde Racing have done a wonderful job carefully preparing our steed for the track.  Last Wednesday all their hard work came to fruition as the horse travelled to Bendigo for her maiden run.

As Gerard noted,  Sirilio Miss blitzed the field to win easily.  We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but we are now calling the horse ‘Winx II’ and Lynchie has already booked his accommodation for the Cox Plate and McKinnon Stakes.  Stay tuned racing fans, because the fun has only just begun.

Our syndicate was represented on course by Ian Holmes, who is Peter Kenna’s friend and lives in Bendigo.  Ian reported Sirileo Miss looked great in the mounting yard and still looked to have plenty of energy after the race.  He kindly sent us these photos from before the race.  Ian reports he was too excited after the race to remember to take any more photos.

Sirileo Miss salutes the judges in her first outing.

Vassa Blue got a run in Ipswich recently.  I use the word run loosely.  I know it makes no sense, but I still miss the big fella.

To be continued next week...

Ten years ago.

Ten years ago, we reported the breaking news that ‘Bomber’ Thompson had left Geelong and joined Essendon.  Locally, ‘Bomber’ won the weekly barrel draw and took home the bottle of wine.  So, in hindsight, it was a week when both 'Bombers' returned home with performance-enhancing substances.

Thank you to all those who contributed this week.
