Boré’s view.

Last week Brendan was awarded his Centurion Award.  He wondered what it was for.  Technically it was given to Brendan for his involvement in the Rotary Foundation Centurion program, but actually it was awarded to him for being an all-round good bloke.  Well done Brendan.

We thank Boré for another excellent cartoon.

Minutes.

Attendance: 27 according to Sam.  No further embellishment, which just didn’t seem right. 

Meal: Stir fried beef and vegies on a bed of noodles with a slice of cheesy bread.  Jason has been on fire lately.

Penno opened the meeting with a joke just for Nooka, who wasn’t there.  It was very funny, so I guess you missed out Nooka.  Penno introduced our President, who walked on stage to the tune of ‘Hail to the Chief’ while giving a Richard Nixon victory/’I am not a crook’ salute.  Ronnie is becoming a hard act to follow.  Ronnie engaged in the traditional ritual of ascertaining that there were no visiting Rotarians and no guests before reporting;

·       Thanks go to Bob for organising the Woolsthorpe lunch.

·       Badge week was a success.  One loose end was tidied up when Brendan was presented with his Centurion badge.

·       The ramp working bee for Mr Blain is going ahead.

·       The ROMP project is proceeding, with a myeloma support group being set up in Warrnambool.  We should have a guest speaker from ROMP to talk to us in about April.

In other reports;

·       Hayessey reminded members the Trade Fair is on the 19^th of May.  Volunteers will be needed on the day.

·       Tim reported that the Rotary Foundation has had a tough few years, with donations well down and requests for grants well up.  It is a timely reminder of the value of donations to the Rotary Foundation, including through the Centurion program.

·       Robbo reported Chris is doing well, although still struggling with the after effects of three general anaesthetics in succession.  Our thoughts remain with Chris and Robbo.

·       Malcolm reminded members the Auction is on the 17^th of May at the Matilda Room.  Lew reminded everyone that we need table captains and guests in attendance.

Matt spoke about his excellent proposal for a fundraiser/publicity event to celebrate Rotary’s centenary in Australia.  His proposal is for a relay format 100km walk around the foreshore in, perhaps, about September.  More details to follow.  Paul O’Brien conducted and excellent fines session based on trivia from the 1960’s despite the rude objections of your correspondent, who has always had trouble remembering things from before he was born.  The meeting concluded with our President revealing he had received some correspondence addressed to ‘G Breaker, President of the Rotary Club of Warrnambool Central’.  I am not sure what our President’s name is, but I am pretty sure it isn’t that.
