Rotary Horse Racing report.
Members were hard at work on the final day of the year recycling cans at the Woodford Cup. Equally hard working was Overflow Miss, who was contesting the sixth race on the card. It was always going to be a thrill to see the pompom bobbing around our local track.
Overflow Miss was looking good before the race and the bookies had her starting as one of the shortest priced horses in the race. Surely, she could put in a strong performance and buck up the morale of Rotarians and they sifted through piles of beer-soaked garbage to recover cans.
Overflow got away poorly and ran towards the back of the field down the back straight and around the bend. The jockey had a cunning plan to go eight wide around the final part of the bend, overtake the whole field, and come home a winner. Unfortunately, ambition butted up against ability and Overflow’s eight wide gambit failed to overtake anyone at all. She laboured down the straight to come home in tenth place.
It was probably a good thing to get that performance out of the way in 2024 so we can look forward to bigger and better things in 2025. Hopefully the club members did a better job of collecting cans.

More exciting updates as they come to hand. With Overflow Miss stepping out again in the fifth race at Hamilton tomorrow, that should be very closely at hand.
