After some deliberation, I have decided not to proceed with our meeting at Lake Pertobe this week. I understand the meetings have been popular successes, and not everyone will be happy with the cancellation of the meeting. The risks have increased in the past week, and we will be in an entirely different regulatory environment once we start our trial next Monday.
Our plan is to return to face to face weekly meetings at a venue from next Wednesday (13th October) onwards. We will finalise our plans and let you know the details shortly.
The last few months have been frustrating for many of us. However, in a week we will be largely opening up for our two week trial. By the time the trial ends we should be fairly close to the 70% and then 80% vaccination rates anyway. The board will meet on Thursday next week. High on the priority will be a return to regular weekly meetings, social events and hands-on service projects.
Our Grampians weekend on the 22-24th of October and the Jericho Cup on November 28th are locked in and look set to go ahead.
Apologies for the cancelled meeting this week. Hopefully it is full steam ahead from next week onwards. I look forward to catching up with you then.

Walk for Matty.
Hi Fellow Rotarians
It is with much humility I write this article for the Spoke. I am overwhelmed at the response from the club and our friends outside the club.
I would like to thank those that walked with us on Sunday and those that donated for the cause in memory of Matty.
On Sunday I advised that we had raised $2400 for brain cancer research. As I write this on Monday night I checked out the Team Mattyo site and was blown away that we had raised $4,337 as I type this.
Responses like this give me heart that there are good people in the world despite all the negative stories we see nightly on the news.
Again my family and I would like to thank the club for the great support you have given us.

We met for the second time at Lake Pertobe again this week. The actual BBQ’s we are meeting at continues to be a moving target but it seems we all managed to find the location.
Thanks to Les and Bob for being the procurement officers this week and Sam, Boré, and the 2 Peters for being the officers in charge of temperature attainment in the sausages and hamburgers.
We were privileged to have Nooka attend this week after returning for being up north. His grin arrived 5 minutes before he did! He has only watched the GF replay 3 times. He was in good company with Lew and Sam both sporting the colours. I think we all seem happy that the Dee’s won except for the Doggies supporters.
This week we will have another BBQ. The location of the event will be revealed when we know what BBQ’s are available. School has returned so there should be less pressure on the facilities at Lake Pertobe so we might have half a chance of predicting the location.

Gerard popped into church the other day. They advertised that the experience would last forever, but apparently it only felt that way. It wouldn't happen at Scott's church Ronnie.
Rotary Horse Racing update.
Power of Song debuted in Bendigo yesterday, in a scene reminiscent of Sirileo Miss’ first race. This was not lost on the commentators, who noted that Power of Song was an unknown but Simon Wilde had won in Bendigo last year in a very similar race with Sirileo Miss on debut. Even when she isn’t running, the world is talking about Sirileo!
However, history did not repeat, and Power of Song could not bring home the bacon. She did finish a commendable fifth in a nine horse field and the stables seem very upbeat about the result and her future prospects.
With both Sirileo and Power of Song up and about and being nominated for races, the next few months should be exciting. Stay tuned Rotary horse racing fans.
