Ronnie’s Wrap.

Rotarians

We had another Rotary Central happy hour and Covid catchup on Wednesday 14th October with 8 members in zoom attendance. Bruce could only be on for a short while but couldn’t contain his excitement over taking delivery of the Chevrolet Silverado! It dominated discussion until Bruce’s departure and the rest of the session involved such topics as football (Hayesy’s Cats), real estate ( Freshly’s  ponderosa up for sale), household security (Tony’s front door), gardening (Lew’s patch) and bees (Tim’s flowhive ). Potholes joined in late and gave a road report with a lot more potholes appearing after the recent floods.

Hopefully the zoom sessions will be a thing of the past and we can meet at the Central Court very soon. I have spoken to Ann from the Central Court and despite the announcement that there can be 40 people dining indoors, the fine print states there can only be 10 in each dining room. So, we wait until next week to see if the restrictions are further relaxed.

The board met last night and signed off on the 2020 financial reports so that means we will have an AGM at a future weekly meeting. We will also need to vote on some special resolutions to change rules and by-laws, so the AGM may take a bit longer than usual unless Knuckles takes up the challenge and wants to beat his PB.

We also heard news regarding James Mepham’s recovery and wish him well in getting back to good health.

That’s all from me. To those going to Halls Gap for the long weekend, have a great time and I suggest you take gumboots. Have a great Grand Final, may the best team win.  Go Melbourne Storm in the NRL Granny, go Humble Pie (racing tomorrow race 2 at Geelong) and Sirileo Miss (trialling at Camperdown next Monday) and let’s hope we have some more Covid restrictions lifted next week.

Stay safe

Cheers

Ronnie

Notice of Annual General Meeting.

The Rotary Club or Warrnambool Central will conduct its Annual General Meeting, including the election of office bearers, on Wednesday 25th of November 2020.  Given the uncertainty surrounding our changing pandemic restrictions, the nature, exact time, and location of the AGM will be announced closer to the event.

Grampians Weekend.

COVID restrictions have eased and next week end we are off to the Grampians again.  Happy days.

As is traditional, the forecast is for rain of biblical proportions.  Fortunately, our Charter President has a conveyance which is 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high, and is capable of accommodating two of every species on earth.  Yes, Bruce has finally taken delivery of the Silverado.  He chose silver.  If you get a red one, is it a Redado?

Brendan kindly sent us these snaps of Bruce’s new steed.  Brendan himself has had the caravan in dry dock, scraped off all the barnacles, and is ready to put it back in the water for another weekend in Halls Gap.  We look forward to catching up with everyone in Halls Gap (in socially distanced groups no larger than ten of course).

Mary says 'go Catters'.

Potholes kindly sent us this photo.

Protests.

Black Lives Matter has been one of the big stories of 2020.  (I believe their might be a respiratory virus circulating also.)  Many decades ago in Australia, it was people of Greek and Italian heritage that often got the short end of the stick.  Fortunately, Pip Ritchie has obtained a can of spray paint and is starting his own political movement.

Ten years ago.

Ten years ago, Central Spoke founder Rotten Ron sent us this photo from the Grand Final that had just been played.

Silverado song #2.
(With apologies to The Simpsons).
Can be sung in both styles of music – country and western.

Can you name the truck with four wheel drive,
smells like a steak and seats thirty-five.
Silverado! Silverado!

Well, it goes real slow with the hammer down,
It's the country-fried truck endorsed by a clown!
Silverado! (Yah!) Silverado!
[Krusty the clown:] Hey Hey

The Federal Highway Commission has ruled the
Silverado unsafe for highway or city driving.
Silverado!

12 yards long, 2 lanes wide,
65 tons of American Pride!
Silverado! Silverado!

Top of the line in utility sports,
Unexplained fires are a matter for the courts!
Silverado! Silverado! (Yah!)

She blinds everybody with her super high beams,
She's a koala crushing, kangaroo smacking, driving machine!
Silverado!-oh woah, Silverado! (Yah!)

Drive Silverado!
Woah Silverado!
Woah!
