Greetings fellow Rotarians.
Last week we returned to something closely resembling a normal meeting. Nicole from the Warrnambool City Council very kindly made the time to talk to us about our R100 Lake Pertobe project. We look forward to that project being delivered this year.
This week we have two excellent guest speakers to talk to us about RAWCS and the Rotary Malaria project. I hope you will be able to join us for that. Warrnambool City Bowls Club, not City Memorial Bowls Club.
The following night we are getting together for a social night of bowling and a meal. Hopefully you can also join us for that also. City Memorial Bowls Club, not Warrnambool City Bowls Club.
Just do what I do; drive to one of the bowls clubs and, if no familiar cars are in the car park, drive to the other bowls club. I hope to see you at one or possibly both of the bowls clubs this week. Unless you are at the Warrnambool Lawn Tennis Bowls Club, in which case you are on your own.
About twenty-five people attended our meeting this week, including our guests Doug, Sandy, Ron, Nicole, Amrica and Gerald. Amrika shouldn’t have been a guest but rather a member. We will get that sorted out very soon. Hopefully some of our other guests will join us shortly also. It was great to see so many people there. We were promptly served chicken parma with salad and chips.
It was great to see all our guests. Sandy and Doug appear to be enjoying Hamilton, life and retirement. It was great to see past member Dr Gerald Irvine and hopefully that might become a regular thing. Having two Gerald’s in the club is going to confuse Boré. Amrica joined us again, hopefully not for much longer as a guest.
It was also great to see Ron McLeod again. Ron was the original editor of this fine publication. With Ron, Robbo and yours truly present we had all the past editors of the Central Spoke at the meeting (we could include Brendan in that list also). I forgot to take any photos of the meeting. Robbo had been taking excellent minutes of our recent meetings. Towards the end of the meeting Robbo commented that he had not been taking notes of this meeting because I was. Unfortunately, I had not been taking minutes and so no record of the meeting was taken. It must warm Ron’s heart to see that his Central Spoke is in such safe hands.
I do recall that Nicole from the Warrnambool City Council gave us an update on the Easter Marr meeting place Lake Pertobe project. This is our delayed R100 probject that we are doing with the other Warrnambool Rotary clubs. Hopefully this will proceed this year.
We finished off with a fines session before members filtered out into the cool summer day.
Boré’s View.
One of our many guests this week was local identity and retired GP Dr Gerald Irvine. In dentistry they have a saying about being a ‘wet fingered’ dentist, meaning a dentist who actually gets down and works. I am not sure if they have a similar saying in medicine but, if they did, Dr Irvine would have been a ‘wet fingered’ doctor. Nobody understood this better than Boré.

Ten Years Ago.
Ten years ago, the club ran a barbeque at the Wunta concert at Lake Pertobe on the Sunday.
Our tent and the team looked fantastic.
The torrential rain and gale force winds made the event look slightly less fantastic.
