Attendance: Nooka recorded 23 members and three guests in attendance. Our guests were Chris, Cheryl and Pip. Nooka also noted that Bono ‘is the worst dressed president we have ever had’. Fair call. Also probably the best travelled since Frans Bos.
Not counting Pip the dog, we had two guests.
Meal: Schnitzel, salad and chips.
David commemorated the lead up to ANZAC day by telling an excellent army joke before introducing our jet setting president, Bono. Brendan reported;
- Thanks to Paul for filling in while Brendan has been away.
- The Push-up Challenge is back on this June. Members are invited to join or sponsor a member who is doing the challenge. More details to come.
- The raffle tickets are due back soon.
- Volunteers are needed for the May Carnival, especially Thursday arvo. Please indicate your availability to Bono or in the Stack App.
- Hutto is still looking for donated wine.
- The Changeover dinner will be on June 26th. Come and celebrate Paul’s elevation from stand in President to President.
- Signage for the Bonomatic 2000 is being prepared prior to the May Races.
In reports;
- Matt advised that the three container recycling bins around Lake Pertobe will be in place shortly. We will need to develop a roster to empty them.
- Paul informed us last year’s treasurer’s report has been given a big tick by the auditor.
- Tony D. extended an invitation from Rohan Keert to tour the new Tech School once it opens in September.
- Malcolm was selling ANZAC badges to members.
- Nooka declared ‘O what’ was in front on 41. Clearly not tipping the Bombers there Garry. Sam and Trev picked nine last week.
Sheryl McKinnon then brought up Pip the Story Dog to speak to us about the program. We sponsored Pip this year.
Pip and Cheryl go to a local primary school to listen to grade 2 students read. These students have diverse needs, but they often lack confidence and literacy skills. Cheryl and Pip spend 20 minutes with each child listening to them read from carefully selected books.
Cheryl has a background of working with children with diverse needs and clearly has a passion for this work. She reports some very good outcomes from the Story Dogs project.
We sponsored Pip and Cheryl $550 for the year. These funds go towards training, uniforms and books. There are currently three Story Dog dogs in Warrnambool and the charity is always looking for volunteers with placid dogs.
We thank Cheryl for bring Pip along and for her presentation. It sparked plenty of questions and some lively conversation amongst members.
Glenn conducted a probing fines session before the barrel was drawn. Lindsay won the voucher but then declared he was heading off overseas for five weeks. Hold off on the big trips until after you are inducted as president Lindsay. The barrel was redrawn and Stu came up trumps.
