Minutes.
Attendance: 21 members and three guests were entered into Nooka’s ledger. Nooka added ‘I am not sure how many paid for a meal?’. Our guests were Ian ‘Surf’ McPhail, Charlie Northeast and Eddie Northeast.
Meal: Roast beef with roast vegies and gravy. Enough to keep Lindsay in the club for another year hopefully.
Sgt Bob opened the meeting right on time. With a brand-new roster in place this week we were organised and set to go. Greg was on invocation and so Bob asked Gerald to do it. Lindsay was on toast so Bob asked someone else to give the toast. Hutto was our chairman so Bob introduced our guest speaker himself. Brendan was on fines so we had fines from the floor. We have a system, and it works beautifully. In reports;
· James announced we will have a guest speaker from Ukraine and a Ukranian themed dessert next week.
· James also informed us that January 11th will be our first meeting back in the new year.
· Rowan was thanked for hosting our Christmas get together.
· Hayesey informed us only three primary schools did not accept our offer of awards and that the schools generally had been very grateful.
· Greg noted that Jan Fiedler was the dux of Brauer College and should get into engineering next year. Well done Jan.
· Matt has now filled the Bunnings barbecue roster. He was also looking for people to assist Sinclair Wilson with their Christmas present project.
· James indicated the club still needs a Community Services Director and a President Elect for next year. Please talk to Rob if you can help.
· Bob asked all members to sell/buy two raffle books. This will be a major fundraiser for the club this year so we ask all members to sell their two books by mid-march. Sporting clubs and community groups can get tickets from Darians.
· Malcolm gave us an update on the Merri School auction working bee. We will be doing a working bee at Welcome Computers, but not until the new year.
· Hutto noted that the Racing Club were also able to assist the Merri School with a generous donation.
Nooka was our guest speaker again this week. His speech this week was even better than last week. This was mainly because the Sergeant actually let him speak this week. Nooka spoke to us about running the bar at the Great Victorian Bike Ride. Fox in charge of the hen house I would have thought. The bike ride this year went through Koroit, Noorat, Timboon (famously named after David’s brother), Colac and Apollo Bay. 1500 riders and 200 volunteers lived in a travelling tent city for the event. Food was provided for every meal, Nooka’s bar ran from 2.30 until late every day and stocked local beer and wines. A U2 cover band played at Noorat. They might have been even better than the real thing. Next year's ride will go from Orbost to Inverloch. We thank Nooka for sharing his experiences with us.
