Attendance: Nooka claimed St Kilda, Carlton and Essendon had all sacked their coaches.  Nooka paradoxically followed this wildly inaccurate report with an unexpectedly accurate report of 24 members and one guest in attendance.  Our guest was Jon Vertigan Snr.

 

Meal: Carbonara.

David launched the meeting with a tasteful doctor joke before introducing President-elect Paul.  Paul excelled in brevity before handing the mic back to David.

Jon Vertigan jnr then introduce our guest speaker Jon Vertigan snr.  Jon gave us an excellent presentation on his 53 years in radio.  Jon’s father was a newspaper journalist so the family has a long history in the media.  Jon, or ‘Verty at 4.30’ to Hobart listeners, broadcast some of the big moments of history, such as the moon landing and the results of the third at Cranbourne.  Jon also recalled an April 1^st many years ago when 3YB brought us news that a submarine had been sighted in Lady Bay.  People in Warrnambool still regularly remember that prank decades later.  We thank Jon snr for taking the tie to speak to us.

Gracey then presented and excellent fines session based on music knowledge before the barrel was drawn and Malcolm claimed the free lunch voucher.  See how far it gets you at the RSL next week Malcolm.

Ten Years Ago.

 

Ten years ago, about a dozen Rotarians took a cooking class at TAFE one night a week.  At the end of the course we prepared a meal for the members, partners and guests.  Boré organised the whole thing and it was a great success.
