Tickler’s ramble.
A good roll up for a very wintery day with the highlight of last weeks meeting being graces interview of our new member Paul Reiley.  It’s great to hear peoples life stories and helps break the ice with new members we’ll done Tony and Paul.  My poor old four wheel drive has been getting a lot of press lately, so I will try not to do anything silly while anyone is watching.

Cheers

Ten Pin Bowling.
Wednesday 28th August, 5.30pm, Warrnambool Ten Pin Bowling.  Meal at Bojangles afterwards.  All members, partners, children, friends etc invited.

Mary longs for sunny Switzerland.
Long, lazy, sunny days on the beach in Switzerland are just a memory for Mary now as she endures the icy air fresh off the Antarctica here in Warrnambool.  Fortunately she has a good friend 'Stanley' to keep her warm, as Tim very kindly reports;
Tim also sent us this snap of Mary applying badges to her jacket after returning from a trip to Horsham.  The Jellies generously took Mary to Horsham to meet other exchange students from our area.

Swiss fast facts.

In the late '90's if you got on a public bus in Wollongong, there is a chance your driver was a semi-professional soccer player who played for the local team.  The bus driver, Scott Chipperfield, was signed by FC Basel in 2001.  Chipperfield went on to play the fifth highest number of games of any player for FC Basel.  He is Basel's most decorated player, having won the Swiss National League with the club seven times and the Swiss Cup six times.

Chipperfield now holds dual Swiss and Australian citizenship and is a legend at FC Basel.

The Two Ronnies.

James writes;

Twinning.

A take on the popular term "winning," it refers to identical thoughts or behaviour, as well as to brilliance.

Person 1: "Uh, we're wearing the same style hair and glasses?"
Person 2: "TWINNING!!"

Just need Ronnie to grow a bit of rugged stubble...

Ten Years Ago this week.
Ten years ago this week the Central Spoke reported that Shane Keogh invited along guest speaker Superintendent Ivan New of the Victoria Police to talk about crime in Warrnambool.

Community Service Director Ian Senior was relieved when Shane and Ivan had to leave early, as the Central Spoke reported at the time;
 'Ian informed us he was relieved our friends in the police force could not stay for the meeting because he wanted to inform the club about the ‘nearly legal’ Rotary Golden Community Raffle.  Tickets will be arriving soon.  Mum’s the word.'

Full credit to Ronnie Barker who, about nine years later, apparently managed to make our Golden Community Raffle fully compliant with all the relevant statutes.

Footy update.
Another good week for the Bombers on the weekend.  Aside from a brief period between the 21 second mark of the first quarter and the 21 minute mark of the last quarter, the Dons had the better of general play and easily outscored their opponents.

In other games, The Age reports;
Thank you to all those who contributed this week.
