I'd like to acknowledge the passing of Archie Roach, Gunditijmata (Kirrae Whurrong/Djab Wurrung), Bundajalung Senior Elder, songman and storyteller. His loss is being deeply felt amongst our local aboriginal community, please support them during their time of sorry business.

The club forum has generated some excellent ideas and we'll learn from the Directors and their committees about upcoming opportunities to fundraise, socialise and get started on some club projects. Brendan has assigned you to your committee in the Stack Teams App. In your groups you can share messages and schedule meetings to assist you to manage the projects and inform others - lunch meetings and sending a report/request for members to the Central Spoke is also an avenue to engage all club members in the activity.

This Wednesday, Boré, has organised Allan Welsh and Jeff Mutsaers to talk to us. Allan is legally blind and Jeff rides with him as his sighted tandem partner. Their tandem bike is in desperate need of replacement, and Bob McMillan is currently engaging other clubs to support the funding needed. Bring a friend! (Let Brendan know in the App)

This month we have a special guest, Doug Heazlewood OAM, coming to speak on the 17th of August. Please save the date and consider bringing a friend.

Attendance: Garry manned the door last week. He is neither a trained accountant nor a professional bank manager, and so his report on numbers was concise and accurate. 18 members present.

Meal: A chicken curry and rice got the job done.

Our sergeant Amrica was away so Matt filled in for her. Matt was late so Brendan filled in for him. Brendan was off looking for a microphone when the meeting began so Macca filled in for him. Macca opened the meeting and then Brendan reappeared with a microphone and took over from Macca. Matt then walked in the door and took over from Brendan. Still no sign of Amrica, so Matt introduced our President.

In reports;

· Garry has advised members that they have been sent invoices for their memberships, which are now due.

· Garry also reported that after our years of Covid funds are getting low. We need to get some fundraising projects going.

· Bob gave us an update on the footy tipping. Some members tipped eight winners but missed out on the draw. Nooka harshly refused to pay out for tipping all the winners and so the prize for picking nine has jackpotted again. Robbo remains out in front of Dillo, Nooka, Hayesey, Lew, Rowan and Ron.

Ron conducted an excellent fines session before we divided into our committees and met in our club forum. The barrel was drawn and our illustrious President took home the coveted bottle of red.

Rotten Returns.

When Ron produced the Central Spoke it was all anolog; a typed bulletin photocopied and hand delivered to members homes. These days we use a computer software program linked to our webpage and database to email our newsletter and post it on our website. Ron has moved with the times, and regularly emails us with his Central Spoke contributions. Ron does all this despite claiming that there is only one key on his computer keyboard that he understands, as he reports this week.

Ron used his special keyboard to send us a cartoon this week.

The First Day.

Lew Officer points out that this cartoon raises a very interesting question.

One of your correspondent’s favourite movies is American Beauty. It has a wonderful script written by Alan Ball. In Alan’s script, the lead character observes that; ‘They say tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life. That is true of every day except one.’

Ten Years Ago.

Ten years ago, we welcomed our incoming exchange student Stephanie Sommer, from Switzerland. Also, ten years ago much-loved member Greame ‘Pinky’ Kemp was involved in a car accident that killed his friend and put Pinky into ICU in Ballarat. Fortunately, Pinky went on to make a full recovery.
