This week we had the Trivia night. Congratulations to Surf for organising a successful night. A big thanks to Kellie and Verto on another excellent quiz. Thanks to Bishop Scott for the use of facility. Also thanks to Glenn who was working in the background collecting the entrance fees. Thanks to all that attended. The night was very successful and I'm guessing we raised around $1,000. The raffle raised about $400! I think this is heading towards an annual event.
On Thursday Linda and I attended Hampton RSL to present to Brighton and Brighton North Rotary Clubs on the DIK project we did with these clubs. The night was also attended by the District Governor and District Community director. They seemed very happy with the presentation and the project. The meal was served in a baine marie with choices of chicken parma, butter chicken, fried rice, macaroni cheese balls, chips, Veggies and salad with a bread roll. You could have as much as you wanted but could only use 1 plate!
On Saturday we ran some can bins to Deakin for the relay for life event. They were collected on Sunday. We have collected about 1.5 bags of cans and disappointingly there was a high degree of contamination for the small amount collected.
We tested the mods made to the Bonomatic 2000 and there may be 1 more small modification to make but in general the modifications are successful.
On a positive note Robbo and Rotten are on the improve!

Rotten Returns.
It's been a while since I've been at Rotary and chose the trivia night to make a comeback. The name of our table was "Rotten", and we lived up to the title and won the coveted perpetual wooden spoon. It's not that we didn't know the answers; they just asked the wrong questions. For the record, as far as I am concerned Mt Kilimanjaro has always been in Kenya, it must have been recently shifted to Tanzania. The Bee Gees wrote and sung "Island in the Stream" which Kenny and Dolly made famous, but no points were forthcoming for this priceless extra information. I won't go on, but had the tables been judged on a pro rata system the three people on table Rotten would have been up with leaders.
Other observations: The Bishop was a great host, Surf was a great organizer, Dillo would make a lousy airline hostie, Fools on Stools were better than Snoop Dogg and Jon and Kellie were in their usual good form.
It was good to catch up with Mark (Potholes) and Di and reminisce about our Penang days. The last time I was talking to him he wanted to sack Carlton's coach, centre-half-forward and half the team. I also suggested he change the name of his dog - Juddy- to Dangerfield but he drew the line at that. This time, however, the Blues had just beaten Brisbane in a practice game and he was all talk. He also reminded me of the 1995 Grand Final when they beat the Cats. You remember the one - when they cheated on the salary cap!
Obviously, the Club did some good things in my absence. I have been through the Bega cheese factory at Bega NSW, so I wasn't too concerned about missing that experience. The lunch at Mickey Burkes pub would have bought back memories though. I re-carpeted the whole pub more than 50 years ago when Mickey had his cockatoo doing card tricks on the bar. I was working in a room upstairs when the cocky flew in the widow and landed on my shoulder. I said, "give me a kiss" and the bastard bit me on the lip. I learnt my lesson and have never asked a strange bird for a kiss since.
Attendance: Nooka recorded an exceptional 26 members in attendance. Nooka thanked all those members who have joined the footy tipping competition again this year, which was everybody because it is compulsory. He also suggested we have a footy scarf/beanie day just prior to the start of the season.

Sarg David got us away with a very good lawyer joke before introducing our President, Brendan. Brendan informed us;

Members are asked to rsvp for the upcoming joint meetings of the Rotary clubs.
Brendan will be presenting to the RC of Brighton on Thursday. Lew will be going with Bono, thus giving us a better representation at that meeting than we had at the District Conference.
The Shark is no more.
We will be recycling containers again at Relay for Life.

Gerald advised that the Bega trip was a success thanks to Bono and Bega CEO Chris Evans. Mickey Bourke’s was also good.
Gerald also reminded members we need volunteers for the Neil Porter Legacy day to help with the barbecue and parking on Tuesday 3rd of March.
Matt announced that the Warrnambool City Council are proposing to place three can collection bins at Lake Pertobe and another at the Pavillion with all cans collected being donated to us. How good!
Matt also informed members Robbo has been in hospital but is out now and recovering. We wish Robbo well.
Greg let us know he and Paul, Michelle and Lexi are going to Horsham this weekend for a post-exchange event.
Surf gave us some final details for the trivia night. The Warrnambool Bowls Club very generously donated a prize.
Gracey was 75 yesterday. Happy birthday Tony!
The Compass absolutely guaranteed that Positive Image would win in Race 5 at Terang on Friday.

Brendan then gave us a fines session based on trivia about the Bega company that members should have retained from their visit their last week. Sadly, nobody seems to have been paying any attention and only Lindsay and Les were able to come up with a correct answer to anything. I am sure if Bono had asked what beers are on tap at Mickey Bourke’s we would have done much better.
The barrel was drawn and Bim claimed the free meal without any supporting evidence that he had actually won.
Footy Merch.
Footy season is rapidly approaching, and people are once again looking buy football supporter’s gear. Footy club merch is often hideously overpriced but, for the canny shopper, there are bargains to be found. Last meeting your correspondent made mention of the very reasonable price of Bailey Smith socks on sale at the Bulldogs merchandise store. My brother has since informed me that there is also plenty of value elsewhere.

Rotary Horse Racing report.
Last Wednesday The Compass absolutely guaranteed Positive Image would win race 5 in Terang on Friday. Put your house on it. Quit your job and put all your super on it. Positive Image, according to Matt, could not loose.
Positive Image launched out of the gates and led the field early. She then settled nicely behind the leader for the journey. Positive Image was still sitting nicely in fourth as they hit the home straight. Then it all went pear shaped for Positive Image and Matthew Northeast.

Ten Years Ago.
Ten years ago, our excellent exchange student was Ricardo from Brasil. It reminded us of our former exchange student, Ciao, who was also from Brasil. If my memory serves me correctly Ciao's mother was a dentist, so he came from a good family. Ciao was a first class racing driver who had a major off while piloting our recently departed Shark in the Red Bull Challenge in Melbourne. For some reason we seem to have few photos of Ciao, but Lew did manage to capture this one of Ciao giving a sheep a Brasilian.
