Tickler’s ramble.
A good roll up last Wednesday and we even had a visiting Rotarian.  Wonders will never cease; Steve Giddings from Warrnambool Rotary with their exchange student Joe graced us with their company.  They then along with Mary decided on a Saturday morning swim. ‍ I did warn them about the water temperature.  Rob Coffey spoke about his recent heart surgery.  A great day with much camaraderie.

Cheers
Tim Goodall

(Rob no doubt feels there may be easier ways to generate camaraderie within the club - Ed.)

Just a reminder of the details;

The Rotary Club of Warrnambool Central's annual Rotary Peace Concert and Community Awards night raises community awareness and funds for Rotary International's Peace Scholarships and the Scholars work.  We believe that Peace is not the absence of war, and through the performers songs about inclusion and tolerance the concert is a platform for addressing local and international topics on peace. The evening is a dynamic show with each performance being a couple of songs, and includes local choirs and musicians, well known Australian musicians and International performers. The Rotary Peace concert began in 2012, and is a highly sought after event on the Warrnambool Lighthouse Theatre’s entertainment Calendar.

Interplast seeking assistance.

Good morning Club Presidents (Warrnambool x4 and Port Fairy) and AG John,

I have been speaking with Dr John Oswald of Torquay this morning regarding grant matters and he also asked for some help with finding a Rotarian in the “Warrnambool” area who might be interested in being a member of the District Interplast Committee.

The task is not great:      to reply messages from the committee

                                      If clubs want a speaker, to contact the committee members

                                      To circulate information to clubs when appropriate

                                      To assist with the Interplast raffle (once each 2 years) in the area.

Would you please inform your club of this position and those interested could contact me on bjtrenery@bigpond.com or on mobile 0417 301 796?

Regards

Brian Trenery

For and on behalf of Interplast member Dr John Oswald.

Swiss fast facts.

Astute members will have noticed the similarities between the colours and emblem of FC Basel and the more famous FC Barcelona.  This is because FC Barcelona was founded by Swiss engineer and footballer Walter Wild.  Wild modelled the colours of the new club in Barcelona after the club he knew in Basel.

Ten Years Ago this week.
Ten years ago, we ran a report on Bruce’s recent trip to Europe.  We thought it worth reprinting in full this week;

‘This week Bruce Ludeman returned from Europe and reported to the club on his trip.  He informs us he had not wanted to go the Europe, but went with Lorraine as a birthday gift from himself to her.  As part of this gift Bruce reluctantly toured the Ducati and Ferrari factories just to keep Lorraine happy.  Ferrari factory tours are only available to Ferrari dealers and owners.  Bruce was told that in order to tour the factory he would have to order a Ferrari, so he did.

Bruce complained that in Europe beer was expensive and he was charged €1.50 to go to the toilet.  As the Europeans know, these are the two easiest ways to make money out of Bruce.
Bruce noted how expensive traveling to Europe was.  To keep costs down, rather than travel first class, he travelled down the back of the plane in business class.  Certainly when Bruce struggles to afford simple things like Ferrari Californias and first class travel to Europe, we know the Global Financial Crisis has hit hard.  No doubt our club welfare officer can organise a whip-around of members and get together some loose change to help Bruce through these difficult times.

When asked if he visited Manon, Bruce replied ‘no, but I did visit the Moulin Rouge’.  Pleasing to hear Bruce does remember seeing some women in France.

Bruce reports he took 2,400 photographs and Lorraine took a similar number.  He has promised to present a slide show to the club in future and advised ‘I could make it ‘G’ or ‘MA’ rated, depending on what members wanted.’  We look forward to this presentation.'

Progress.
Pip Ritchie brings us another comparison this week.  Thin TV's, iPads, mobile phones - technology is getting better, but is it making us better?

Thank you to all those who contributed this week.
