Birthdays.

12th November – Linda O’Neill

ClubRunner Mobile

Ronnie’s Wrap.

Rotarians

The weather is picking up, the ring of steel has been dismantled and we are back to being the state of Victoria. Welcome back metropolitan Melbourne, 10 days of double donuts and restrictions have been eased. Unfortunately for our club, nothing much changed from the November 8 announcement. Central Court can only still have 10 people in their dining area (much to owner Ann’s frustration) so we need to wait until the November 22nd  Covid update before we can hopefully meet face to face. We will have another Rotary Central happy hour and Covid catchup on Thursday  November 12 to see how our members are getting along. I will send an invite soon.

The Melbourne Cup has been run and won, well done to those who picked the winner (Twilight Payment). Unfortunately our sweep didn’t get off the ground, but there’s always next year (and a fine will be forthcoming to all non participants!)

The board will be holding its monthly meeting on Monday 16th November at City Memorial Bowls Club at 7.30pm. Potholes has booked a table for 6.30pm so if board members or members would like to have a meal before the meeting, please come at that time. We will have a pretty full agenda including possible contributions to the Lake Pertobe redevelopment (the other three Warrnambool clubs, Tony Davies and myself had a zoom meeting with council representatives to discuss this)  scholarship funding and Rotary 100 projects including ROMP (Rotary Outreach Myeloma Program)

Thanks to Bono (Brendan O’Neill who has accepted the task of compiling all the volunteer hours that we undertake in the name of Rotary Warrnambool Central. Please contact him if you have done any volunteer work (this means any hours undertaken not including our weekly meetings)

The District AGM is on at 3pm this Sunday (15th November) so if you are interested in attending it via teams, please contact me.

Stay safe

Cheers

Ronnie

Notice of Annual General Meeting.

The Rotary Club or Warrnambool Central will conduct its Annual General Meeting, including the election of office bearers, on Wednesday 25th of November 2020.  Given the uncertainty surrounding our changing pandemic restrictions, the nature, exact time, and location of the AGM will be announced closer to the event.

Grampians weekend 2021.

We will be returning to the Grampians next year.  If you want to join us, here is what you do.  Call the Park Gate Big 4 caravan park in Halls Gap and reserve a cabin or caravan site now.  Just do it now.  If you put it off, it will be too late and the park will be all booked out.

To be continued next week...

If you are looking for a bite to eat...

Ten years ago.

Ten years ago, our guest speaker was past member Frank McKenzie, who spoke about men's health.  I thought this advice was as relevant today as when we published it ten years ago.

Health dividend fully Franked:

This week past member Frank McKenzie gave some advice to members about men’s health and fitness.  Frank informed us 60% of men are overweight, 60% are not active enough, and many eat too few fruit and vegetables.  (Not in our club, but in the general community.)  Partly as a result, men have a lower life expectancy than women (76.9 years compared to 82.5 years).  Frank also noted that men’s life expectancy may be getting shorter.  The good news is that it is easier for men than women to lose weight.

Frank gave us his top ten tips for health;

1.     Reduce your consumption of ‘white food’ (white flour, white bread, sugar etc).

2.     Reduce trans fats in your diet.

3.     Take vitamin and mineral supplements daily.

4.     Include some weight training in your daily routine.

5.     Maintain an optimal weight.  (Apparently your optimal weight is not something you are free to decide for yourself.)

6.     Drink alcohol in moderation.  Frank suggests 1-2 drinks per day.  He does not recommend storing up this ration to spend all at once at a charity auction committee meeting.

7.     Protect your prostate.  (Always wear a box when playing cricket etc).

8.     Reduce your risk of cancer (for example consume a healthy diet, take antioxidants, don’t smoke, and avoid Chernobyl).

9.     Maintain vigorous sexual function.  (Tell them Frank said it was good for you.)  Frank noted that one hour of sexual activity burns 560 calories.  That’s nearly 1,000 calories a year!

10.  Maintain close relationships.  (Apparently this is not the same as point 9.)

Frank also recommends men visit their G.P. more.

If you are worried that death is coming too quickly, and would prefer to feel that death cannot come quickly enough, then sign up for one of Frank’s classes.  Call Frank at Body Blitzer on 5561776.

Thank you to all those who contributed this week.
