Meal: Corned beef with mustard sauce and vegies on a bed of mashed spud.
Stand in Sarg Pip Ritchie introduced our stand in President Matt Northeast to get us underway. In reports;
- Tony D discussed the pharmaceutical blister pack recycling scheme in a way that fell just short of earning him some quince paste.
- Brendan advised that the Golden Community Raffle Tickets are printed and ready for distribution.
- Matt reminded members that from 12.30 next Wednesday we will be down at the Hole in One. Members and guests can enjoy a barbecue before having a crack at bagging the car in the Warrnambool East RC Hole in One competition.
- Lew noted that the Warrnambool RC will be joining us in holding their meetings at the bowlo.
DG Ian then kindly presented the club with our Bronze Environment Award. Our Warrnambool Racing Club container recycling project will qualify us to apply for the silver award straight away. If this keeps up, your correspondent might apply for every district award and see if we can send President Rob out a winner. We thank DG Ian for making the effort to return to present us this award.

We then conducted a lively fines-from-the-floor session. Of interest was Malcolm’s account of dropping his bee hive in a full bee suit minus the boots. Thirty plus bee stings through his socks saw him on his way to hospital emergency for a quick service and oil change. Malcolm was prescribed Phenergan, but he didn’t complete the full course because you must avoid alcohol while taking Phenergan.
Quite a while ago, Gerald Irvine brought a bottle of wine to the board meeting. Uncharacteristically, nobody drank it. The bottle was offered back to Gerald but he declared that he didn’t drink the stuff and didn’t want it back. A decision was made to raffle the bottle and Nooka was put in charge of organising a barrel draw. When Nooka invited guest Cheryl McKay to draw a ball out of the barrel there was only one ball in the barrel. Cheryl drew out this ball and, low and behold, it was number 65; Nooka’s number. Our Sarg Pip Ritchie demanded a redraw. All the other balls were returned to the barrel and Cheryl drew out another number - 62; Pip’s number. By this stage members had seen enough and demanded that the bottle in question be auctioned, with proceeds going to the club. The Compass, the club’s ‘second best auctioneer’ according to our Charter President, stood up and put the bottle under the hammer. After some lively bidding Trev outbid Nooka for the prized drop and very generously donated $40 into the club’s coffers. It should also be noted that Trev’s extensive shirt collection has also seen him become a generous donor to the club via the weekly fines session.
With little remaining undone, Matt reminded members to come and have a hit of golf next week before closing the meeting.
