There are various ways to live our life.  We can live it to try to make it an enjoyable lived experience, to create good memories, to try to effect change, to impress others, or to be remembered. 

 

Of course, trying to be remembered is an ultimately futile task.  In about two and a half billion years the sun will burn the last of its hydrogen and expand into a red giant, burning the earth to a crisp.  All human knowledge and achievement will be lost forever.  That assumes we don’t have an extinction level nuclear exchange, or an AI generated biological weapon extinction event much sooner.  Which, we probably will.

 

This week I discovered that not a single member of the club remembered that I had been club president just five short years ago.  I thought I may have been remembered through the Anthony Davies Memorial Picnic Table in Swan Reserve.  However, it was vandalised and council removed the unused eyesore several years ago.  This week Boré has proposed a memorial that is likely to attract even less public enthusiasm.  Thank you Boré.  Truly, I am humbled.

Attendance: Nooka advised ‘I’ve lost the numbers’ before rediscovering them.  We had 23 members in attendance with no visiting Rotarians or guests to trouble the statistician.

Ron then conducted and excellent and very funny fines session.  I think the past District Governor should leave Rotary and Ron should stay.  Pip then advised that next week’s fines session will consist of each member telling a ‘dad joke’.  Pip, by way of an example, spoke about his cameraman friend Phil Ming.  The barrel was drawn and Bim took home the free meal voucher. 

 

 

 

Generally, in sport, you want the team or competitor that you support to win.  There are exceptions to this rule however.  In footy, if you are going to have a terrible season, you might as well finish last and get the number one draft pick.  What is the point of winning a game and edging ahead of Richmond on percentage?

So, we have our objectives clearly mapped out for us now.  Essendon needs another four big losses over the next month to try to get under Richmond’s percentage and claim the number one pick.  Matrooshi just needs another two bad losses over a similar period to ensure she is put up for auction and our suffering and financial bleeding ends.  Fingers crossed for what is shaping as a big month of sport ahead.
