Wow it is great to be partly out of jail. l even got to take my boat out for a walk. With the eased restrictions your board should be able to meet face to face once again, albeit with limited numbers. Mary sent us some great photos of her cooking. Boy she must be bored not being on a plane ️for at least a month. Your club has had some great feedback on the books sent the Philippines. Thanks for your efforts in this project Penno. Here’s hoping things keep moving back to normal. Take care and hope to see you all face to face as soon as we can. Tickler.
Cheers
Tim Goodall
Hungarians baring gifts.
Your correspondent has a brother who is an ambo in Melbourne. Our ambos, nurses, doctors and police have been doing a fantastic job during the pandemic. One local restaurant recently sent my brother’s ambulance station some food as a way of saying thank you. He reports that when the food arived the paramedics were grateful, but also a little bit nervous.
Donations report.
Tim and the board wanted to provide members with a summary of our donations for the past year.
Our Treasurer added:
At my daughter’s wedding in February this year( which was held in the Committee and long room at the MCG) , her older sister gave a speech which started with the words “So I’m Sophie, I am the brides older sister, and this venue conjures such traumatic memories as a Melbourne supporter that I can’t possible give a speech, so thanks for coming, have a great night, bars open. I’m, totally kidding, it is with great honour that I stand here this evening ………….”
Boré’s view.
Here at the Central Spoke we admire all of our past Presidents, and never pass judgement on their work. However, the strange circumstances we find our selves in has caused Boré to reflect on our history of ‘half-year’ Presidents.
Frans Bos famously was inducted as the President and then went to Europe for six months. Boré remembers it clearly because he was the President-elect and therefore stand-in President for most of the year. Apparently Knuckles remembers being President-elect in Swampy’s year, and not because he remembers seeing Swampy that often.
Tim has been a great President in a very difficult year for anyone trying to run a Rotary Club. Any year they ban fishing is going to be a tough year for Tim. On the other hand, The Tickler has had months of his presidency with no meetings or social events to attend or worry about. Tim’s only concern has been that restrictions may prevent us holding a change-over dinner and he might remain as President until 2025. With restrictions now easing just in time for a change-over, The Tickler doesn’t have a care in the world. Boré caught up with our President recently to capture his mood.
We thank Boré for another great cartoon.
Mary cooks up a storm.
Tim has very kindly sent us these photos of Mary’s recent cooking efforts. After seeing these photo’s, Tim would be distraught that Mary had to go home early.
For comparison, we have included a photo of a meal prepared by a professional chef. I know you are all missing Rotary.
If you are looking for a bite to eat...
There are some great places around Warrnambool offering take away food.
Jann reports.
Jann Fiedler has been very good about sending us updates. The problem is that he is sending his updates in some sort of mobile phone format that I can't cut and paste and most of the photo's I cannot even open. So apologies that I have not been forwarding these updates to you. I have included his latest report this week, although I could only open one of the photo's.
Rotary Horse Update – get on board.
Physicality and Vassa Blue syndicate members are now looking for somewhere to invest their vast winnings. The stock market is tanking, property prices are set to tumble, and interest rates are at record lows. What to do? The only sensible place to park your hard earned in these uncertain times is to invest in a share in the next Warrnabool Central Rotary horse. It can't miss.
p.s. It might be a bit premature, but your correspondent is already thinkiing about names for our new horse. So far I have come up with two ideas: Vassacality or Physic Blue.
Ten years ago this week.
A decade ago, when we were allowed to be in the same room as other people, Penno reported on an attempt to go to the District Assembly.
‘Penno alleges a group from our club attended the District Assembly recently. P.E. Paul came straight from work and was less than at his best. Rowan deteriorated as the day wore on. Lindsay Monaghan left his folder in the auditorium at lunch time, expecting to return to the conference after lunch. This is a classic novice’s mistake. Congratulations to those members who took the time to attend the District Conference. I think. Penno has kindly provided us with these photographs of the lads enjoying lunch at the Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld. The conference was in Stawell.’
Learning new skills.
During the shutdown we have all been encouraged to learn new skills that we can apply in our jobs. Pip Ritchie has been impressed by the new skills now on display.
