Robbo reports;
Geoffrey T reported that we had " 30 attendees including partners, and as many visitors as we've had in the last 10 years". It took a bit of yelling and several hearing aid adjustments before we realised he was talking about Christmas Party at the Jericho Cup on Sunday. The attendance for today's meeting was 29, momentarily halting, by one, the hitherto upward trajectory of attendances at meetings under Lew's presidency. Janick and Lea were also present and in good form. See below some photographs of their recent activities. These two are really throwing themselves into the Australian summer, so let's all bear them in mind for meals, activities and trips.
Lea had a supply of lemon meringue tarts at three dollars each, which were going off like hot cakes. All in the name of funding next years Safari trip. Let the minutes record that I paid her for the cupcake I ate last week. Let the minutes also record that I still owe Malcolm $10 for his tub of paste from last week. Malcolm was an apology today. Sgt Brendan put up one of the very excellent and intricate serving boards which he and son Matt normally sell for $130. They are a beautiful piece of work, and anyone who buys that board will see the money passed straight on to fund the Safari.
Bob McMillan reminded members that tickets for the Community Raffle are available for collection at Ian Senior's Darrian Office in Fairy Street.
Gerard Barker put out a call for volunteers to be delivery drivers when it comes time to delivering to the less fortunate in our community, presents left at the Sinclair Wilson Wishing Tree. He also mentioned an upcoming working bee, probably on January 13 next year, filling seven large planter boxes out at OPEL Aged Care.
There is an auction meeting at Malcolm McPherson's place at 7:30 PM on Tuesday 11 January for anyone interested. It will be great to get a few more involved in the process/committee.
Brendan reported that the Walk for Brain Cancer last weekend had raised $1.3 million nationally, about $403,000 in Victoria, and Matt's group contribution was over $10,000.
The Jericho Cup was indeed the success indicated in the photos and commentary from the last bulletin. Thanks for expressed to the volunteerswho turned up to conduct the barbecue for the Light Horse on Saturday, and to Peter Lynch for organising such a great day, particularly in placing our marquee right next to the bar.
Our lunch today proved interesting affair. When did we last have an "entrée"?!!.... out came a fairly stodgy margarita pizza. I made the beginners mistake of wolfing it down, and I was feeling slightly bound up and uncomfortable by the time a large, and rather chilly, curry arrived. No dinner tonight! Idiot.
We didn't think we were having a guest speaker, but there was an interesting dissertation delivered by what appeared to be an ice addict in the foyer. That's why we have Nooka on the door,.... lthough he didn't appear to hear the disruption.
An enjoyable meeting ended up with Bruce L delivering a fines session which he claimed he had forgotten he was on. It's ended around the day at the races, and his praise for Lynchy putting on such a fantastic day didn't deter him from fining Peter for reasons which went entirely clear. In the midst of the chaos I recall his line that he's been telling his Essendon supporting mates that "Essendon no longer has a drug problem. Their only problem is Hawthorn!"... But his best fine was on Francis Broekman (or Captain Brophy" as Bruce called him) for his constant appearance in photographs in The Warrnambool Standard. It was a fine we could all support, as evidenced by Francis' appearance in the photograph below. Is there no end to his publicity seeking?

Titus O’Riely – The worst ideas of 2018.
Bob McMillan reports;
Night games at IKON Park
Once known as Princes Park, the now horribly named ‘IKON Park’ had a few night games held at it across the AFLW and JLT pre-season.
This resulted in those uppity AFLW players complaining about the lack of lighting.
Typical I suppose. Us blokes finally let them play footy, and now they want to be able to see while doing it. Talk about entitlement.
The AFLW was quick to respond with AFLW CEO Nicole Livingstone saying there just wasn’t enough budget to put in better lights. This sort of made you wonder why selected it as a venue for night games, but logic is a mythical creature in AFL land.
Cue the arrival of the men’s preseason games, and suddenly the budget was found for some more lighting.
When questioned about the double standard, the AFL pointed out that there are more players on the field in a men’s game, so therefore they needed more lights.
Now, I’m no scientist, but I don’t think that’s how light works.
I guess at AFL House that whenever someone new enters a meeting, they have to turn another light on.
More common sense military advice.

Your Fast Facts columnist has paused in his retreat from the psychic assault of political mayhem, disaster trends and conflict in the world. He sends the following thoughts from under the shade of an olive tree.
The greatest change we need to make is from consumption to production, even if on a small scale, in our own gardens. If only 10% of us do this there is enough for everyone (Bill Mollison)
And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom (Anais Nin)
