Greetings fellow Rotarians.
Somebody shared the following saying with me this week;
‘The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second-best time to plant a tree is today.’
The point I think is that if you want to make a change in your life or in the world then you can’t start too early. After all we have been through during the pandemic, we are now beginning to return to some sort of normal. As a Rotary Club, now is the time for us to return to old traditions and also begin new things.
We began meeting at the Warrnambool Bowls Club last week and it does appear to be a great new venue for us. The Roster is back this week. The barrel draw is back. We will return for our first post-lockdown working bee at the cemetery next Sunday. Our traditional Christmas break-up is back on Sunday 18th December. We trying some new fundraising ideas, chiefly the Bool Music and Wine Festival. We are also getting involved in some new international projects, and many, many other projects as well.
Our Rotary club has been figuratively planting trees for more than thirty years. Now that we are emerging from pandemic lockdown, it is time for us to plant another tree. Let the board know what you want to be doing in Rotary and how the club can make that happen. I hope you will join us at the cemetery next Sunday to literally plant some trees and continue the next chapter in our history.

Minutes.
The club test drove the Warrnambool Bowls Club last week, and most members seemed fairly happy with the choice. Sam recorded that twenty members enjoyed a chicken salad for lunch.
Sgt Paul got play under way and asked for reports. Your correspondent excitedly told the meeting about Barry Morgan’s attendance at the RSL active dinner, but nobody knows who Barry Morgan is. In other reports;
· Matt reported that we will be having a working bee out at the cemetery on Sunday December 12th at 10.00am.
· Matt informed us that the thankyou coffee card will now be a practical bookmark. Star Printing have very kindly offered to print the bookmarks at their expense. In addition to the four Rotary Clubs, South West Healthcare if contributing to this project.
· Bob McMillan advised members that they can pick up a Bool Music and Wine Festival poster from Ian Senior at Darians from December 2nd onwards. We want these posters up in as many locations as possible. Please help if you can.
· Bob also gave those members present two raffle books each. In lieu of needing to contribute to a charity auction, members are asked to sell these two books of tickets and return the proceeds to the club.
· Hayesey reported that the prize vouchers to schools are going out now. Kings College have already awarded their prizes.
· Peter also reported that the Neil Porter Foundation 50/50 project will end tomorrow. Thank you again to all those members who contributed their time.
· Lew asked members to sign up on the Bool F&W Festival roster that was been passed around. If you were not at the meeting, make sure you indicate to Lew how you are able to help.
· Bob informed us that there will be a Myeloma fundraising walk on February 27th. Stay tuned for details.
· Bob spoke about our new venue; The Warrnambool Bowls Club. The assistant manager Craig, an ex-Rotarian, has been really looking after us. Members might consider joining the Bowls Club as a social member. It costs $10, but social members get discounts on food and drinks at the venue. It would make it more than worthwhile for Rotarians if they are buying a drink with their meal every week.
· Matt expressed surprise that the club president also edited the club newsletter. Yes Matt, we have become the North Korea of the Rotary World.
Paul conducted an excellent fines session based on identifying famous people largely from their arrest mugshots. Good stuff. Francis won the raffle and took home the bottle of red. Trev went out to the front desk to sign up as a Bowls Club Social member as a birthday present to himself. A belated happy birthday Trev.
We will be back in the Bowls Club in Timor Street next week. Remember, you can’t get into the car park from Gibson Street despite our advice to the contrary. Les has organised a guest speaker for next week, possibly someone he met in the bar at the Bowls Club just before our last meeting, so it should be a good meeting.
Side effects.
There are about 5,300 medications currently listed on the PBS in Australia. They all have risks and side effects. Pip Ritchie has been reading Mims, and sends us this report.

Lew Officer has cursed more demon’s over the years than all the pope’s in history. Lew sends us this report;
The pastor's wife was expecting a baby, so he stood before the congregation and asked for a pay raise. After much discussion, they passed a rule that whenever the pastor's family expanded, so would his pay.
After six children, this rule had become very costly, so the congregation decided to hold another meeting to discuss the pastor's ever-increasing salary.
A great deal of yelling and bickering ensued, as to how much the pastor's additional children were costing the church and how much more it could potentially cost.
After listening to them for about an hour, the pastor rose from his chair and stated. "Children are a gift from God, and we will take as many gifts as He gives us."
Silence fell over the congregation.
In the back pew, a little old lady struggled to stand and eventually said in a frail voice. "Rain is also a gift from God, but when we get too much of it, we wear rubber boots."
The entire congregation said in unison.... "Amen........
