Jungle Jim's Coconut Wireless

As a 'digger' in the Army we were never sure we could trust that up-to-date or relevant news was being passed down from the Senior Officers. So, to find out what was REALLY going on we relied on the coconut wireless, which was each other and the locals on the ground.

Thank you and congratulations to Tony Davies, Brendan, Paul Reilly and the committee members for your 2021-2022 Rotary Year. It was a challenge! And some great fun along the way with some excellent projects seeded, maintained and grown. Personally, I thank you all for you mentorship and help to get me as prepared as I can be for this coming year.

Changeover Dinner at Proudfoots was a low-key social event with Gabbey Steel playing some great tunes - Bob OAM was swooning, even becoming her Roadie and helping get her amps out into the van with his deputy Greg. Gabbey was pretty chuffed, she even asked "can anyone join Rotary?".

Matt at Proudfoots was short-staffed AND had to deal with a laundry machine breakdown in the bathrooms upstairs, this put them under the pump to be as ready as they could be. Pip and Gracie made a small fortune on the fines, thanks Gents! Lew Officer took out the Feral Award for his 'gentle ferralness', congrats Lew! Linda did an amazing job of the table decorations, Adam gave the Rotary Toast and Shane the Invocation - with a fantastic bonus explanation of the Peek Whurrong peoples geographical placement within the lands of the Gunditjmara of the Easter Maar Nation. Ronnie was MC, PP Peter Shepard from Altona Rotary Club De/Invested Tony and Myself, and Garry announced the Club's PHF. We look forward to presenting the Paul Harris Fellow to our special guest on July 13 at lunch - SHHHH it's still a secret... Thanks to Francis for the wine to auction.

Many members and partners couldn't come, I hope you are all recovering and/or having a lovely time away. Please reach out if I can do anything, we are all here for you.

RI President Jennifer Jones is asking us to DREAM BIG, and live every day with purpose. I've checked out her very engaging pitch, and basically if you leave it up to me to interpret it, all bets are off, we have the permission to really think about change, and get on with it - https://www.rotary.org/en/jennifer-jones-imagines-rotary-fulfilling-big-dreams What are your thoughts?

Lastly, don't forget to RSVP in the Stack App for lunches. If you are experiencing app'o'phobia please let myself and Brendan know and we'll help famailarise you with it. Brendan, you've moved mountains to sort RSVP'ing out, it's up to us to not let you down!

Apologies for the light-on content this edition, we are switching a few things around and just wanted to at least get you something! Fine me for the fumbles

SAVE THE DATE - 13 JULY 2022 - Paul Harris Fellow
presentation at Club Lunch. Please RSVP early and confirm
   any guests you are bringing.
Thanks to Adam, Pip, Lew, Tim and the Directors for sharing the responsibility of organising our guest speakers for the year.  We have some great speakers coming up!

Diversity and Inclusion:

This year we will be displaying these flags relevant to Australia and Rotary International. https://www.rotary.org/en/about-rotary/diversity-equity-and-inclusion

Displaying these on our publications and website will be demonstrating that we recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are the first custodians of this nation, and we display the LBGTIQA+ Pride flag to demonstrate we are inclusive of the various gender and sexual identities.

We do this so people feel welcome, included and safe. As Rotarians we must respect and be allies for all people, whatever their identity or circumstances.
