Jungle Jim's coconut wireless.

The old coconut wireless has delivered very good news - it seems that no matter where people were on Saturday they had a good time! Must be the sun and being able to actually get out and about.

I must say a huge thanks to Rowan and Lorraine and Tony, as they did all the hard work to have the Club Christmas party (see pics below). And to everyone who could make it as well as those that couldn't that sent celebratory messages!. It was great to see your partners and please pass on to them my gratitude for coming along too! So much food... we are truely very lucky.

The Bunnings BBQ is on next weekend, please put your name down - see Brendan's email. It is going to be a very busy and funny day.

The Golden Community Raffle is our next-big-thing and we'll need to start seriously supporting Bob and his sub-committee to make sure the club is very active with it.

The Melbourne RI International Convention 'early bird' ticket price ends Dec 15, it will go up by $100USD... come along! https://convention.rotary.org/en/melbourne

How are you tracking toward the end of the year? I can only say how relieved I am we've not faced any major crisis in our immediate location. We are working well and making a difference, lets keep looking for the opportunities to reach out and lend a hand. I am feeling a bit tired and ready for a little break so lets ramp up the laughs and enjoy our next three get togethers, this Wednesday and next with the Bunnings BBQ in the middle! 'Tis the Silly Season for Silly Sausages! (okay thats is a bad lame Dad joke!).

The Board is meeting Tuesday night, so hit me up if you want anything on the agenda for us to consider.

Catch you on Wednesday, bring a friend (Thanks to those that have been too.)

Christmas Party.

Lorraine and Rowan very kindly hosted us on Saturday for the club Christmas party and we thank them for their generous hospitality.  James has kindly sent us these snaps.
Pip missed the bus.
We tested all the expired ingredients on the dog first.
Alternative Christmas Party.

On the 10th December some Rotarians were unable to attend the Christmas function due to meeting commitments at the MCG. A group of Rotarians and partners attended the Billy Joel concert at the MCG which was opened by Tina Arena.

Tina's performance was as good as she ever was I suggest. Tina grew up in Kielor East so she came back home for the show. For those that remember Tina on Young Talent Time she is now 55. I wish the years had been so kind to me!

Billy Joel opened up the show at 8:30 and performed essentially non-stop till 11:00pm. Not bad for a 73 year old.  Joel had a group of amazing musicians supporting him and the performance could be summarised as "WOW", it was a fantastic show. One worth seeing as 72,000 can attest to except for the few we saw being escorted by the local constabulary.

The central rotary club was well represented with the Bullants, the jellies and ourselves. There was also an ex member there in the form of Phil &Jenny Morison.

As you can see from the pictures you don't need to be very smart to be a drummer based on his attire!
...and Brendan said 'man what are you doing here?'

Boré’s View.

At our Christmas party we were able to enjoy the spectacular ocean view from Lorraine and Rowan’s place.  Boré also gets a good view.  Yes, this week’s ‘Boré’s View’ is about Boré’s view.  Boré gets a great view of the ocean from his house, but only when his neighbor opens the curtains.  That is a problem, because every time Boré’s neighbor opens his curtains he sees Boré staring through his window, and then he closes his curtains again.  The binoculars don't help.

We thank Boré for another fantastic cartoon.

Minutes.

Attendance: Nooka recorded 22 members and one guest in attendance.  Our guest was Ian McPharlin.

Meal: Chicken parma, chips and salad.

Reports;

·       Boré is looking to assist in the collection and transport of warm clothes and blankets to Melbourne for donation to Ukraine.  He has organised a guest speaker on the 21st to discuss the project.

·       Hayesey informed us that the primary school awards and certificates have been delivered.

·       Bob gave us a report on the Lake Pertobe tree planting.  Trev. did most of the work.

·       Mal is organising the $1,000 working bee we dontated to the Merri School auction.  Stay tuned.

·       Brendan brought us the news that $4,500 was raised at the Walk 4 Brain Cancer.  Well done Brendan.

·       Matt asked members to volunteer for the Bunnings BBQ in the stack app.  Please wear your Rotary shirts.

·       Lew reported that the ‘Give up the gaspers’ project has raised $900.

·       Rowan reminded members that our Christmas party was at his place on the weekend.  He advised members that his access track had not been graded in ages and he recommended ‘you leave your Mercedes’ at home’.  Your correspondent received this as a challenge rather than advice.

Lew conducted and excellent fines session as a support for the main act; our guest speaker Nooka.  For those members not able to be at the meeting, you missed out.  I can say, without fear of contradiction by those present, that Nooka’s masterful oration was the best the club has ever witnessed.  We laughed, we cried, it had it all.  Hats off to you Nooka, there isn’t a tub of quince paste big enough to do it justice.

Rotary Horse Racing report.

Last week Power of Song ran in Hamilton.  Punters gave her no chance and she began the race at the longest odds.  For much of the race she trailed the field and it appeared as though the punters actually knew what they were talking about.  However, down the straight the jockey flicked the switch and Power of Song sliced through the field like a hot knife through butter.  Beaten in a photo finish, the race caller declared that if the race had gone on another meter, Power of Song would have won.  After the race the jockey admitted he had timed his run a bit late.  You know the horse ran okay when even the jockey is blaming the jockey.  Very good signs going forward.

Ten Years Ago.

More than ten years ago, 'Chill' set us a snap of Matt relaxing at home in a simple black number.  Ten years ago Matt appears to have achieved some sort of revenge.  He sent us a snap of Paul at a Rotary working bee looking a picture in his Rotary polo top and matching navy knee length skirt.
