You can also RSVP via the Stack Teams App.

If you are in Melbourne over the weekend and until Wednesday next week, the House of Friendship will be open and free for the public at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre at Southbank - swing by and say G'day to RTN Brooke Jensen, she is manning the STEM Experience booth.

In the true spirit of Rotary International, Stu attended a club meeting in Phuket recently. Nice work Stu, we look forward to hearing about it and seeing some Thai Baht in the fines box soon!

Minutes.

Attendance: Nooka observed that ‘mayhem prevails’ at the front door before declairing 19 members and two guests in attendance.  Our two guests were Chris McEwan and David Blaxland.

Meal: Curried sausages on a bed of rice.  There is no doubt this is one of the best recipes in the Australian Women’s Weekly cookbook.  First class.

Bob and James bounced the ball and we were away for another week.  James reminded members that Wellways were reaching out to people needing any supports for mental health and they were always available to help.  In reports;

·       Gerald advised that Matt from the Neil Porter Legacy is once again asking for volunteers for their automotive program.  If you are able to help see the details below.

·       Nooka reported that Dillo is still in front in the footy tipping with 61.  Nooka is second with T-bone, Rob and Sam in equal third.

With out guest speaker being called away to work, not a problem most of our members face, Dillo gave us an update on Hospice and Hutto gave us a report on the Thoroughbred Club luncheon.

Dillo reported that Hospice ha trained 164 volunteers and has 50-60 active at any point in time.  Hospice is not government funded but is supported by the philanthropic trusts.  They may be approaching businesses for support soon.  Hospice always new volunteers and the expectation is that volunteers will provide 1-2 hours of support each week.

Hutto then gave us a summary of the recent Thoroughbred Club luncheon.  158 people attended and listened to four excellent guest speakers hosted by Matty Stewart.  One of the guest speakers spoke about getting frost bite in Lapland.  This struck a chord with Hutto, who once got a cold ‘toe’ in Lapland.  I am not too familiar with Lapland, but I believe traditional Lap dancing clubs are quite popular.

The luncheon raised an incredible $22,500.  Our donation of a 40 hour working bee raised ’20 dong per hour’ for Myeloma Australia.  The working bee was purchased by Symon Wilde.  We might be out at the stables soon shoveling manure out from under our many prudent investments.

Hutto thanked Lew for his generous donation of wine and 3YB/Coast FM for donating advertising.

Bob and James blew the whistle well past the hour we were done for another week.

Neil Porter Legacy asking for assistance.

Matt from the Neil Porter Legacy is asking again for volunteers to assist with the Brauer College year 10 automotive student program.  Volunteers are needed between 9.10 and 10.50 am on Tuesday 23rd May, 30th May and 6th of June.  Please talk to Gerald if you are able to help.

James kindly sends us this report from Stu.

Iron Man.

Like many other people, your correspondent’s better half was deeply impressed with Oscar Robinson’s effort in the Australian Iron Man competition to raise money for Dementia Australia.  Sashi sends us this report.

Rotary Horse Racing report.

Last week Power of Song went to stall to race in the Carlton and United Breweries Handicap.  What is the Carlton and United Breweries Handicap?  Well, we are not sure what the United Breweries problem is, but the Carlton handicap is it's list, coaching staff and administration.  The supporter base isn't much chop either.

The nation’s best theoretical physicists emerged from their bunker underneath Stawell to witness the occasion.  Physicists judge the success of a horse by applying Officer’s Law, which compares the place a horse ran to the pre-race expectation.  (Officer’s Law is expressed mathematically as P-R=S, where P is the pre-race expected finishing position, R is the final result and failure = S<0 and success = S>0.)

The betting market priced Power of Song as the fifth most fancied horse in the race.  Our champion ran home strongly in forth place, very slightly exceeding our pre-race expectations.  The laws of physics declared the run to be a success and we all went home happy.  Unless you had Power of Song for a place, in which case you just discovered some dark energy.

Ten Years Ago.

Ten years ago, Rowan was hard at work on Rotary House.

Sorry, my mistake, that was last week's photo.  Here is Rowan hard at work on Rotary House.
