Minutes
Attendance: Nooka commended members on a wonderful effort last week and has started framing the market for this year’s feral award, with ‘Boxhead’ a 6:4 favourite in Nooka’s book. Nooka recorded 24 members in attendance with no visiting Rotarians and, thanks to COVID, no guests.
Meal: Roast. It doesn’t hurt to be mindful of the tastes of people who sit on philanthropic trust boards.
Sarg Dillo introduced President Rob and we were underway. Rob noted that;
· Our guest speakers have COVID and will be rescheduled for another time.
· Matt and Rob have proposed Friday 28th of June as our changeover date. The matter was put to a vote of members and nobody voted in favour of the Friday and nobody preferred the Saturday. I have said it before and I will say it again, Democracy simply doesn’t work.
· The NYSF is on this Tuesday.
· A board meeting will be held on Tuesday 28th at 6/30 Riverview Terrace.
In reports;
· Tony D thanked the people at TOMRA Cleanaway for their incredible support during the May Race Carnival. They opened early three days in a row just for us and couldn’t have been more helpful.
· Greg thanked Pip, Lindsay and Haysey (and one other person who’s name escaped me – apologies) for their support during the recent eisteddfod debating competition.
· Greg also advised that our proposed outgoing exchange student, Lexi Forbes, will address the club once she has recovered from COVID.
· Hutto reported that the Myeloma Luncheon was attended by 183 people and was a huge success. The event raised $22,000 for Myeloma Australia and $5,000 for our Rotary club. Hutto thanked Matt for running the auction on the day. The wine auction was successful also, with Hutto remembering that it raised $980 and Matt remembering a figure closer to $1200. Well done Hutto.
· Members were also advised that our new syndicate was successful in purchasing a 5% share in Chipilly. See Rotary Horse Racing report section below for frequent updates on our new addition to the stables.
· Hutto was also able to report the container recycling scheme as a success. It was a great effort from all involved and it made him very proud to be a part of the club. Hutto particularly thanked Brendan, who coordinated the whole effort. He also thanked Dillo, who dropped off containers at TOMRA at 7.00am three mornings in a row, the ‘earliest he has gotten out of bed in forty years.’ Again, well done Hutto!
· Lindsay then made the wonderful announcement that the Mavis Trigg Foundation has made the very kind and generous offer to match our container collection dollar for dollar. With 53,880 containers collected over the three days, this is indeed a very generous offer. We thank all those connected to the Mavis Trigg Foundation.
· Hutto also advised that we will have a container collection scheme debrief over lunch on Tuesday 21st of May, 12.00 at The Liebig. Anyone who participated in the project is welcome to join us as we discuss lessons learnt and opportunities for improvement with the project.
· Malcolm thanked Matt for organising the wreath on ANZAC day. The club thanked Malcolm for laying the wreath on our behalf.
· Gerald advised members that the town was experiencing a COVID outbreak since the races and advised that many chemists were short of anti-viral medicatlon.
· Dillo reminded members that the golden community raffle will be drawn next Wednesday and members should return the money and tickets from their two books to Bob asap.
· Nooka gave us a footy tipping update. Rotten is in the lead with The Voice, The Compass, O’Reilly and Hickory Dickory in hot pursuit.
The meeting concluded with fines from the floor followed by Matt’s auctioning of a 2002 bottle of Penfolds Bin 28. Robbo picked up the excellent vintage with a successful bid. We wish Lexi and her father a speedy recovery and look forward to hearing from them soon.
