Tickler’s ramble.

Well this week there is some good news and some bad news.

I will start with the good news. Your board will meet face to face for the first time in months this coming Wednesday, with smoked chicken wings and all we will be deciding on the format of our board changeover and planning the resumption of our weekly meetings.

The bad news is that I am still your president.  No you haven’t gotten rid of me yet, but don’t despair it’s coming soon.

I have no news from Mary or Jann, but hope to have some soon.

Hope to see you all shortly.  Stay safe,Tickler.

Cheers

Tim Goodall
No need to panic buy.

Data reveals that the two growth industries during the lockdown were alcohol sales and online gambling.  Some people had to access their super to maintain this lifestyle.   Was there ever a risk that we might run out of alcohol, and see the sort of shortages in Dan Murphy’s that we have seen in Coles?

Pip Ritchie has been down to Dan Murphy’s on a regular basis, and reports that there is nothing to worry about.

If you are looking for a bite to eat...

There are some great places around Warrnambool offering take away food.  And possibly sit down now.
Out of lockdown.

Restrictions are easing and we can begin to get out and about again.  We can even visit our neighbours again.  Your correspondent is fortunate enough to live in a neighbourhood where everyone is friends.

Ten years ago this week.

Ten years ago, Hutto gave us a report on the Warrnambool Inner Wheel Charter Night.  Their new rostrum was hand crafted by our own Tim Goodall.  Apparently, the highlight of the evening was Caroline Monaghan’s outstanding Dame Edna impersonation.  As we noted at the time, it isn’t easy for a woman to impersonate a man impersonating a woman.  Well done Caroline!

Lindsay Monaghan, seen here doing an impression of Caroline doing an impression of Barry Humphreys doing an impression of Dame Edna.
Golf is back part 1.

Your correspondent loves golf.  I like nothing better than to get out and hit a golf ball.  However, I haven’t set foot on a golf course in 20 years.  I don’t even own a set of clubs.  I am a driving range golfer.  At the driving range, in your mind, every shot goes where you intended it to go.  At the range you get 100 shots for $15, at the course you are lucky to get 130 shots for $50.  Some people tell me they pay for 18 holes and don’t even get that many goes at the ball.  At the driving range you never need to look for a golf ball.  100% hitting balls, 0% looking for balls.  It beats me why anyone plays that odd golf course form of the game.

Pip Ritchie knows what I am talking about.
Golf is back part 2.

Golf can best be defined as an endless series of tragedies obscured by the occasional miracle, followed by a good bottle of beer.

Golf ! You hit down to make the ball go up. You swing left and the ball goes right. The lowest score wins, on top of that, the winner buys the drinks.

If you find you do not mind playing Golf in the rain, the snow, even during a hurricane, here's a valuable tip ........ Your life is in trouble.

Golfers who try to make everything perfect before taking the shot rarely make a perfect shot.
A ' gimme ' can best be defined as an agreement between two golfers ... Neither of whom can putt very well.

An interesting thing about Golf is that no matter how badly you play, it is always possible to get worse.

Golf 's a hard game to figure. One day you'll go out and slice it and shank it, hit into all the traps and miss every green. The next day you go out and for no reason at all your game really stinks!

If your best shots are the practice swing and the 'gimme putt', you might wish to reconsider this game.

Golf is the only sport where the most feared opponent is you.

Golf is like marriage, If you take yourself too seriously it won't work, and both are expensive.

The best wood in most amateurs' bags is the pencil.
